Dinobot: That said, it would be loltastic if somehow Brady gets injured in the playoffs and Tim Tebow, as a backup, defeats the Denver Ponies.

I still can't figure out why the Jacksonville didn't take a run at Tebow. Just sign him and they could fill every single last seat in EverBank Field. We're talking World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party type attendance for every Jaguars game.

Because that new owner with the wicked stash is letting his coaches and GM makes the calls. He apparently has no interest in being Jerry Jones

As much as I love my Denver Ponies, I'd not mind John Elway eating some humble pie courtesy of a Tim Tebow-led Patriots, just for shiats and giggles.

Supes: I guess the only advantage the Pats have with this move is that this is one of the few situations Tebow could go to where there's no real chance of a QB controversy. If the distractions aren't an issue, no reason Tebow can't contribute in spot roles on special teams.

I was thinking the same thing. It's about the only place he won't cause a controversy.

Pay him/compensate him in some manner for the number. Fairly common etiquette. This, of course, assumes that Mallet has any interest in giving up his number.

The move does make some sense.  The Patriots only have 2 QBs on the roster (Brady and Mallet) and regardless of your feelings about him as a player, he has starting experience and playoff experience.  If something horrible happens, he could hold down the fort and help the team tread water.  Add to it if the lack of interest has made him open to adjusting his primary position a bit, he could serve in a RB/FB capacity.  We know the Patriots spread the ball around and haven't had a primary RB in forever so that could get him some touches.  I don't see this as being bad and if things don't work out in training canp they can always cut him.

Smart on his part.  If he was in Jacksonville, it wouldn't matter how bad he was, fans would blame the owner and everyone else but Teebus.  New England would at least give him the tough love he needs to be made a better player.

The head coach and GM don't want to deal with the circus that would happen if he came to town. For every homer that filled a seat because of him, two would stay away.

ariseatex: Klippoklondike: Anyway, to the point.  Putting Tebow in Boston was the only way for him to get MORE press coverage.  It's just not gonna stop.  It's like the terminator of news/not news.  No matter what you do, it will keep coming.

I'm afraid that's what he and his agent were thinking.  Of course the press is a fickle mistress.

Best case scenario for him, of course, is that spending time with Brady will teach him how to be a better QB, both on the field and on the sideline.  No matter what I think of the Patriots, I can't deny Brady's skill as a team leader.  Hopefully Tebow learns leading means more than "just do what I say and let me run the ball!"

sure, the patriots as a franchise have never been afraid of players - either when using them or letting them go, either you play as a team member or go home

sometimes that gets them in trouble (like letting go of wes welker) but other times they did it perfectly (like starting Brady or letting go of Moss)

i'm not sure how much the media control helps keep players focused, it's probably just a cog in the system, but if Ochocinco could be reigned in then so could Tebow
