JohnnyCanuck: Dafatone: JohnnyCanuck: Dafatone: His point is that he's angry at numbers. It's pretty clear

This is what I was talking about. It goes far beyond calling the game from behind the plate. Just because I threatened your delicate intellect and you felt the need to dig for something to try make yourself feel better is beyond my control. However, your response was probably more predictable than a players ability.

So who is it that is differentiating between a PB & a WP? Unless I am unaware that MLB went to a new scientifically developed system, I'm pretty sure it could be one of 30+ individuals on any given day. Individuals that have different definitions of such. Same as an umps zone. (at least they're starting to be schooled for some consistency)
FYI: The same person who decides what is an error or a base hit....among other things in the game that are used in graduated stats that are based on human judgments, yet somehow claim to eliminate such things.

An accurate equation does not have a bunch of instances, each with their own outliers, that get put together with an expectancy of ignoring the fact that you came to a single representation that does not account for the fact that all of those outliers have been magnified by having them all mashed into an answer.

\also..the criteria for who gets the W should have been changed LONG ago. The fact that a reliever can come it and hypothetically get the W without throwing a pitch is insane. We give the score the power to determine all sorts of things with regard to stats, yet not the W for the pitcher. If an RP comes into a tie game with 2 out and picks a guy off without throwing a pitch and his team takes the lead in their half of the inning he could get the W instead of the starter who went 7 strong in a scoreless tie.

\\stupid

If you're going to insult me, don't fail at quoting?  Is that too much to ask?

And if we're just going to say that facing different hitters / pitchers / fielders / scorers / umps / parks makes doing anything with stats too subjective, doesn't that throw out any stats?  Player A hits 35 homers or bats .330, and player B hits 25 hr and bats .300, but we can't tell the difference because there are too many factors up in there air.  Oh well.

I think he's Yuniesky Betancourt's Fark login.

"Sure, I might appear to make tons of outs and play terrible defense.  But isn't that what the numbers want you to believe?  Who is to say that I wasn't just the victim of hundreds of pitchers having moments of awesomeness?  A few hundred bad bounces here and there and all the sudden I'm the bad guy?  Is there an equation for love?  No.  QED."

Hey...sorry, I was busy having a life.

I like how Mr. Mann shows up shortly before, then loooooong after I post in hopes I'm done for the night and won't prove how clueless he is...again.

Dafatone: If you're going to insult me, don't fail at quoting?

You do a good enough job of that yourself. You don't need me around for you to look like a moron. Honestly, I don't really understand your, ummm....question?!? "Don't fail at quoting?"

anything with stats too subjective, doesn't that throw out any stats?

Yes...which is why sports is much more than the stats used to represent them. Try and follow along, but thanks for the help, I guess.

chimp_ninja: That and I'm not sure who you're arguing with here.

I'm not arguing with anyone. That's part of the problem you halfwits have. You think everyone is arguing with you because you don't know what's it's like to have a conversation. You're unwilling to learn anything you can't claim credit for.
You were actually doing pretty well keeping it calm for a while...probably 'till you thought I was gone. Then you're ready to morph into the group to help you with your feeling of never having been included during youth and/or adolescence. This is probably where you developed this sense of always having to try and prove how smart you are. Don't worry though...it's not just you  chump...the other losers are in the same boat. That's why you all feel comfortable only when there are more than 2-3 of you around. You probably also feel very threatened by someone who is unearthing all of your deep rooted mental problems. It's goes with your personality. It's OK....the 1st step in recovery is self awareness.

See how you are different based on situation and circumstance?

Here's a question you can get mad at...

Who here has ever actually played, well...anything athletic?
I'm assuming most of you are just mindless desk jockeys or something with nothing better to do. You know how you can't type when someone is watching you or looking over your shoulder? Pro-sports is like that times infinity...well, it may as well be to you anyway. But that's just how much more intelligent I am than you guys in every aspect. I can successfully multiply by infinity.

Try not to feel threatened when I'm around though. I'm only here to help. So any time you people are ready to stop acting like whiny little biatches, i'm sure i'll be around. But keep in mind...as soon as you start trying belittling tactics because that's all you have left to resort to, i'll knock you down again.

You'll learn, my friends........you'll learn!

Sorry.  I wanted a "best of" for quick reference.

P.S. "Mom's Basement".  You're supposed to say it.  It's the center square on all the cards.

So apparently you're allowed to have a life, but everything I do revolves around what I think you're going to do in the future?

Gotcha. Makes total sense.

You missed, like...a lot.

Came back just cause. I always assumed farkers were more athletic/successful than these running gags we let play out.

chimp_ninja: If you have someone arguing that "Equations" Are The Enemy, bringing up DRS, UZR, FRAA, etc. is kind of futile.

On the other hand using "advanced statistics" that are flawed feeds into people's distrust of them.  There's probably something analogous to RF, like a zone % or something (I don't honestly remember all the various shiat people keep track of now) that makes the same point without having quite the same counting problem.

Actually, times have been tough.  We used to all have individual mother-owned basements, but now anyone that can do math above a fifth-grade level is being herded into group homes by Nerd Panels.

It's probably safer, given how easily threatened we are.

Mathematically, this is surprisingly similar to dividing by zero.

/Did you mean to divide by zero?

You probably don't want me to finish that sentence for you. Seriously, I know why you came back. Somewhat similar to the reason I did. Although not quite exact.

thecpt: these running gags

So tell me about what you rationalize to yourself as a "running gag". It's very interesting that you felt the need to express that. Very much in line with what I would have expected.

How was your relationship with your mother/father/siblings? Individually...not grouped as your family.

dafuq?  I meant the fark joke of everybody living in their mom's basement.  Conversations on Fark have lead me to believe this place is full of highly individualistic and successful people.  Also that everyone on this tab in particular has never played the sports they love, and they weren't athletes.

Particularly I don't understand some of your stances in baseball.  I'm fairly certain you're a Jays fan and I get along with you on other tabs, but here you do some major toe stomping some days.

eh, welcometofark.jpeg for me

thecpt: but here you do some major toe stomping some days.

I apologize. I tend to always take things one step further when conversations inevitably turn to a pissing contest. I find in baseball threads recently most discussions take a turn when someone challenges another's intelligence. In turn, that person challenges the other's athleticism. That's just what happens. Sometimes I like to take a different route. Obviously there are things I say that are "out in left field" so to speak. But that's probably because I really don't take it very seriously. With that said, I've been a sports/stats junkie for a long time. So when someone challenges that with insults to my ability to understand it, then I will probably respond the same way...insulting. In the end it just becomes a game of insults. In my defense, however, I rarely go overboard till someone provokes it. So I can have fun with that too.

I have admittedly learned some new approaches reading posts with differing opinions from mine. But when those farkers want to pretend to have the ONLY opinion that matters, well...sometimes it's just game on.

But just like during a baseball game in which there are moments where opponents might literally feel hatred toward one another...those same guys might be having dinner together the next night. It's really no big deal.
