See, the SAMs they sold the Syrians was not for the benefit of the Syrians but to cover the Russian troops as they stream roll over the Israel.

Hopefully they will make a desert and call it peace. I know the Czar could have.

Truly the way to peace in the middle east is to add more foreign troops. The Russian orthodox are feeling left out that they're the only religion without an army in the region.

Russian government convinced Russian troops in the disputed Golan will lead to peace

Terrible sentence is terrible.

The Russian government is convinced that having troops in the disputed the Golan Heights will lead to peace.

That's better.

Funny, Israeli troops on the Golan Heights has already lead to peace. Syria hasn't been dumb enough to attack them for years.

Last time they did, it was because the Soviets practically gave the Syrians enormous quantities of war materiel.

I doubt they could do a worse job at keeping the peace than the Israelis are currently doing.

Sure, like they cleaned up all the problems when they were in Afghanistan in the 1980s.

Russians in Baja Turkey. They'll probably place all the firepower in northern Syria to get a running start toward Israel. Facing backwards to Israel? That just provides lower drag.

They just want a little foothold, and maybe both sides of the Bosphorus.

And Vladmir Cheneykov says "They'll treat you like liberators. They'll love you!!!"

Russia wants Golan heights presence?
China wants to be a broker in Israeli peace talks?

What's this crazy world coming to? Sounds like two emerging superpowers want a 'safe' conflict away from home to focus on and project power with.

Russians: if where you are going to be stationed is anything like the "El Haleuf" map from World of Tanks, JUST SAY NO.

Probably the best position Afghanistan has ever been in though.

Sucked for them that the Russians left, and it has been sucky ever since.

Everything is relative you know.

The Russians in Palestine? Can you say a second Crimean War? But seriously, the best way to bring peace to that entire region is to just get the hell out of the way, let them shred themselves and check back when the dust settles. Otherwise, how long have we been at this? From way back beyond the aforementioned Crimean War ... Cannon to right of them, Cannon to left of them ... oh, those poor horses!! And how much headway's been made over there ever since? It's their property, leave them to it.

Well the shiat might actually improve things. Make the plants grow better, ya know.

Better than the 3000 years worth of human blood that soaks that place.

You do know that this was referred to as the Soviet Union's Vietnam? It wasn't good for them or for the Afghan people.

The biggest threat to world security today is Russia and China thinking they belong at the big kid's table.

I am well aware of American propaganda during the coldwar.

No, it wasn't very good for the Soviet Union, but we were talking about Afghanistan. And I stand by my statement that the Soviet Unions intervention was the best thing that has ever happened to Afghanistan.

Those bloody commies came in with their typical notion of equality between the sexes, free education and healthcare for everyone, and a society not governed by religion.

And then they farking enforced it.

So we had girls, and boys of course, recieving compolsury education in schools build by the Soviet Union, and the Soviet Union having trouble with clan warlords.

Contrast that to today where we have the farking Taliban actively enforcing their Sharia crap even with the USA present. Imagine how it'll be once USA leaves.

Instead of America... a country that proudly starts 'preventive' wars in countries that did nothing to it.  Yeah, Russia/China are threats to world security (aka. America's world dominance).
