yeah... this is a terrible farking idea.

There's reason we don't sell booze and cigarettes in public access vending machines anymore.

I'm ok with this, but outside of medical dispensaries, it seems problematic. I don't see cigarette machines anymore, but we'll have weed in a can? Sure, why not? Actually, I don't really have a coherent point here.

Half an hour later....

"Dude, I'm going back to the vending machine. I need moon pies and doritos!"
"Dude, I'm going to eat all the vending machine!"

/They better have a snack one next to it

When I was your age, a dime bag cost a dime, and you know how much condoms cost?
No
Me neither, we never used them.

Oh, man. A cigarette machine would be perfect for the home bar. I don't even care if it works. But that's a nostalgic childhood image of a place where adults would gather for adult fun.

Early 90's were the last ones I saw. We used to be able to pull the handle and hit coin return at the same time and get cigs and money back.

put one of these behind a security door where you need your preapproved ID card to get in. That way the kids can SUCK IT while the rest of us get what we want. Hell put it in the lobby of the head shop for when the store is closed.

Cigarette machines still exist in areas that are known to be child-free, like bars that deny entry to non-adults.

It sounds like this guy wants a wider market than that, and fan tho I am of the product, it's a bad idea.

I worked at a dive bar in mesa, AZ from 03-06...the ciggie machine was moved to the office and patrons would just give us 6 bucks and tell us what they wanted.

Indeed, the bar next to my office still has a machine.

As best I recall, Subby, a "dime bag" refers to heroin.  Marijuana comes in a lid or, if you're really old (like me), a matchbox.

A "dime bag" can be for any drug. It usually denotes price ($10), but can occasionally refer to the weight also (if a gram is $10, then .5 would be $5, or a "nickel bag"). Only time I've ever heard of it was referencing weed.

"The people who are using this in the recreational space - they know what they want, and they don't want to hear the whole spiel every time."

Sounds like the typical douche-bag bean-counter that has never used in his life and is only in it to try to make a quick buck. Not only that but 'bud in a bag' is going to be crushed and stale while the stuff at the counter is going to be fresh and fluffy. Since this will have to go into a secure area anyway you may as well go into the secure area with the good stuff in it.

Apparently Japan hasn't really "figured" that one out. What is it about Americans that they don't copy shiat from other countries that figure out don't work there goodly?

Why would it be in a bag?  Why not in a sealed plastic container?

If I remember correctly, the Medbox guy wants to put them in regular pharmacies. You go there to get your prescription* filled by the pharmacist, who checks your card and then allows the transaction from the machine. Allows people to get MMJ without needing a dedicated dispensary. Also possibly making it easier to accept in the boonies than a system where you HAVE to have Drug Dens everywhere medical pot is okay.

* yes, I know doctors can't actually prescribe anything Schedule 1.

Can't disagree.  Like I said, I'm an old fart and haven't been around that world in a very long time.  There wasn't any Urbandictionary back then.  It is probably a recent appearance in the world and probably references current usage.

The reason I became a budtender was because I wanted to be able to sit down with people, listen to their problems (the most important part of being a budtender!), and help them find a strain that was suited to their specific needs and situation and maybe even throw a little advice their way when needed and desired.

I don't think I really have a problem with these machines for recreational smokers who simply don't give a shiat what they're getting (who doesn't want to see, smell, and touch their cannabis before buying?  I know I sure do!), but I sort of had a problem with the line:

"The way we see it, when you walk into a shop, you don't need the expert or aficionado to help with selection,"

And to a degree, I agree that nobody wants to talk to a pot snob.  But there are tens of thousands of strains out there, and a good budtender will study and take notes on every one he can get his hands on.  His customers depend on his knowledge of strains and their effects, and this goes triple for Medical Marijuana patients.  A lot of them are in no condition to go out and experiment with a gazillion different strains until they finally find one that works.  And the wrong strain can actually make their conditions worse.  A good budtender will help guide a patient to a strain that benefits them the most, and away from strains that will exacerbate their situation.

Medical Marijuana patients should probably avoid these machines entirely.  These machines are designed for dopey college kids who play hackey sack and wear Che Guevara t-shirts.

back in the '70s, I can remember when a dime bag was a half ounce, a lid was an ounce and a nickel bag was a quarter ounce.  Then Nixon started Operation Intercept and the price doubled overnight.

There is no earthly reason why weed should cost so much, it is an agricultural product, it is used directly from the plant, it should be in the single digit/very low double digits dollars per pound, not hundreds of dollars per ounce.
