Jesus, dancers.  Scary-ass levels of physical skill, and then asked to perform in absurd costumes.

You know who else interrupted the climax to a live televised event?

ecmoRandomNumbers: People watch the Tonys? I think even the homosexuals gave that up a few years ago.

nekom: I don't know of anyone who watches it, gay or otherwise.

Do you two actually know anyone who's involved in theater?  It's still quite popular within the theatrical community, and that's kind of major in Atlanta.  Doubly true when one of the nominees for Best Musical is actually out of the local Alliance Theatre.  People were pissed.

WGCL encountered a few seconds of black and our local producers accepted that trigger as the end of the network broadcast and began our 11 p.m. newscast. The network feed of the Tony Awards was not over and WGCL did not air the final seven minutes of the broadcast. This was a human error and action is being taken to guarantee this does not happen again.

I highly doubt they have producers in on a Sunday night. In other words, the master control operator who makes $10 an hour is the person we're gonna stick with the blame. This station, despite having CBS, the #1 rated network, as its lead-in to the news, is in last place in the Atlanta market. They're owned by a bunch of greedy f*cks called the Meredith Corporation which typically owns magazines. About 12 years ago they decided to buy a bunch of TV stations on the cheap, and run them cheaply as possible. This is what cheaply-run TV looks like.

Tom_Slick: CBS Atlanta released a statement.

Last night towards the end of the Tony Awards just after 11:00 p.m., WGCL encountered a few seconds of black

It was at least a minute, an awkward, flub-filled minute.

Hand NPH the keys to the Academy Awards already. He can give them back in ten years.

CBS Atlanta News is a passionate supporter of the arts; this error in no way reflects the opinion of WGCL-TV, CBS Atlanta News or its employees. We will be airing the final segment of the Tony Awards at the start of all newscasts at 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. today.

It's "Kinky Boots", in case you don't follow theatre.

I started watching it after the fact simply because NPH was so freaking awesome a few years ago:

So I just youtube the opening number / montage of best of clips the next day now.  Cheerful little ditties to start the work week.
