Isn't The Lone Ranger a very expensive movie that is coming out soon that I haven't seen a single advertisement for, nor would I care if I did?

July 3. Maybe it will be good? It's got William Fichtner. I've generally liked his work, though he has smaller parts. Oh, and Johnny Depp if you care.

Also, a Top Gun sequel? Really? The movie only worked in the exact time period in which it was made. The combination of music, plot, and everything. The music has aged and the sheer amount of "boys will be boys" sexism wouldn't fly in a modern movie marketed to the same segment.

The plot would suffer a lot. Example, the climax fight at the end of the movie. How the hell would you stage that in the modern world? Fictional war with China, or the hero blowing the crap out of some Middle East airforce equipped with older Migs than there were in the first Top Gun?

fark no. China's such a huge market for US films, with major censorship, no studio risks their wrath. That's why the recent Red Dawn remake pretends NK could invade us.

This is not the time for a Top Gun sequel.  We have wars fought in the Middle East that are against people with out an Air Force.  The North Korean Air Force isn't much of a threat, and honestly, the current relationship with China is too positive to justify being the enemy in a war movie.  Iran might be a better choice since it has an Air Force, not too happy with the U.S. and the money and resources that North Korea lacks.

I actually gave it some thought one day, and I figure that you'd have Iceman shot down in an experimental recon plane over North Korea, and Maverick has to lead a mission to provide air cover for a rescue in the new F-35s, while also taking out a nuclear missile they are threatening to launch. The only problem is that with the newer stealthier aircraft, chances are the North Korean aircraft would all get splashed Beyond Visual Range.

There was always going to be a Lone Ranger sequel, Tardmitter. Likely 2 of them.

Top Gun 2 where the MiGs are played by beachcraft and maverick sits in a lawnchair shining a laser into nearby airtraffic.

Clearly the only possible scenario for a Top Gun 2 is that sometime after the first movie, Maverick and Iceman finally acknowledged their mutual feelings for each other and while it was tough going for a while hiding their love while being ace pilots, they're living happily together in a post-DADT world.

Johnny Depp often travels with his Captain Jack Sparrow costume and visits children's hospitals unannounced.

That's actually pretty cool.

/Still not gonna see TLR.

Didn't like Top Gun at all. From the trailer, The Lone Ranger looks to be a pretty standard Bruckheimer action flick.

2013-06-10 05:24:21 AM
How would a sequel to Top Gun work anyway? Most of the pilots would be well past mandatory retirement age and Val Kilmer can't fit in a farking plane.

The Northprop F-5 "Migs" were in-service in the 60s, so that was pretty old anyway.

Really.

Same movie but instead of iceman it is a drone.   Tom Cruise cameo, or as an instructor and it will make millions.

/not saying it will in any way be a good movie, just that it will make money.

i hope that lone ranger movie bombs.  i have nothing but respect for johnny depp, but that movie was a terrible decision by everyone involved.  i hope it bombs so badly that they have no choice but to scrap any plans for a sequel, because you just know they already had the sequels planned out before they even finished this one.

I recently went on a downloading spree of albums from my childhood/adolescence. The Top Gun soundtrack was one of them. And you know what? I think "Take My Breath Away" is a great song.

There, I said it. It's out there and can't be taken back. You can't unread it. The most you can do is revoke my TF privileges, which I probably deserve for making this post.

/saw Top Gun in the theater as an 11 year-old, with my grandfather

Considering how much things have change since the original Top Gun, They'll probably do a sequel the way they did the 21 Jump Street Movie.  It'll be more like a third Hot Shots movie.

Top gun 2, leaked screenplay.  Powerful stuff guys.

*camera pans in, two very homoerotic nerdy types sitting in swivel chairs (zoom in on lumbar support).  We are seeing the top competitors in the US Air force's elite drone piloting program.  Renegade, the audience favorite is playing hard and loose with the rules (as usual).  His wing man, WiFi looks on from the back of the room.

"Renegade, what are you doing? That maneuver is impossible!  The Xp394 drone can only bank at 35%, you are entering a value of 37%!!!  Your drone will revert to autopilot to avoid damage."
* Renegade  Looks up, gives a light smirk
"Just watch me"
Camera 2 - Renegade's main competitor, code name XboxOne.
"You are foolish Renegade.  This mock battle is mine.  Do you know why they call me Xbox One?"
*Xboxone pauses, removes sunglasses
"Because I'm always on"
Xboxone looks at the camera, sexily.  Alarms flash suddenly, red light bathes the room.
Xbox one " NoOOOO, it can't be.  Red ring of death, I was so close"
Renegade looks up just as his drone completes the objective. "Sorry Xbone, looks like you should have bought the extended warranty"
/scene
