Got to take my brother, and old bandmate to see Les at Cleveland hard rock cafe a few years ago. $20.00 admission. Ended up sitting 3 rows back. The old guy lost some speed, but was very good still. Great sense of humor, too. Kept flirting with his young, sexy bass playing girl. A true pioneer.

Or take out your Epiphone and play some slightly square jazz licks.

I so gotta have!!!

Cool looking body of a Gibson with the fat and tubby sounding hum-bucking pickups and a neck/headstock that won't crack or break like the original Thunderbirds.

So cool.

I have my 73' Deluxe stashed away.

ALL my axes got stashed away when I had kids.  It's just easier that way.  Sometimes when it's late and the house is quiet they come out to play, but other than that they remain secured.

Those are indeed cool.  Love my (Leo) Fender P-Bass.  Also have an acoustic bass for when I play with Acoustic Nazis.

/I *hate* Acoustic Nazis.

Don't mind if I do.

Yeah, she's an Epi, but I love her anyways.

I had a '77 LP Custom natural finish. Sounded great, but god that thing weighed a ton.

I don't have the seven fingers required to do those weird jazz chords.

Jack Kerouac: I just had to sell my Les Paul :(

I sold my Gibson Les Paul because I couldn't do it justice.  I kept my Epiphone Les Paul, though.  I can't do that justice, either, but I don't feel quite as bad about it.

I have a P90 Les Paul my sister got me for Christmas. I don't play it that much but really think I should. It stays locked up and protected in a moisture control case.

Depending upon the year, Epiphones can be excellent.  Though they almost lost their Les Paul contract when the quality went to shiat for a few years.

Really happy with my Epiphone. Just a fraction of the price of a Gibson, even after upgrading the pickups and electronics.

For those who didn't know about it, there's was recently an auction of his estate (i.e., all of his guitars, recording gear, and so on) at Julien's.

You can still view the (400-page!) catalog as a full-cover PDF here--all kinds of drool-worthy stuff:

/BTW, if you're a fan of LP's earliest playing, and don't know about the work of fellow pioneer George Barnes, he's worth a Google.

Yea yea. I'd like a Les Paul but god damn there's no way the new models can be worth the price they charge. I'd like a vintage one but I'd really like one of those vintage SGs with the three humbuckers and Bigsby more.

Not cheeeep, but under a grand, if not by much. USA guitars will never be at the bottom of the market anymore. Unless you're farking Walmart, you have to pay Americans enough to eat regularly. You don't get the fancy finishes that the more expensive models come with, but you still give an American a job, and they sound as good as the fancy ones. Or as bad. Gibson QC is what it is.

I've been jonesing the SG Tribute 50's.

I realize that there are no 50's SG's but the price and the features make that a good guitar. Gibson p90's are best in league, and the 24 fret pup placement on an SG is irrelevant as the 22 fretters have the open space at the end of the fretboard anyway.

I'll trip over my Epi Les Paul Junior in the dark
