Bacon wrapped dates are directly from the gods and dangerous as I can end up eating WAY more slices of bacon than a heart should ever have to experience.

Pretty much this, and so many places have them and make them good.

I'm surprised no one has tried to bring back rumaki.  It would appeal to the retro-hipster thing, plus it's farking delicious.

Bacon wrapped dates are a Christmas time thing in my family. I can't eat them outside of December - it feels unnatural.

I do bacon-wrapped brown sugar & bourbon Lil' Smokies (those little cocktail-sized smoked sausages).  There's always a huge hit at parties or functions.

Basically cut the bacon in half, wrap it around a Lil' Smokie, hold it together with a toothpick.  Soak in brown sugar and bourbon for a bit, then put on a baking sheet, and douse liberally with more brown sugar.  What looks like too much is just right.  Bake at 400 for 25 minutes or so, until the raw brown sugar has melted into a glaze.

They're good but have you tried bacon wrapped bacon with a variety of dipping sauces?

I love them and still make them around the holidays even if I'm the only one eating them.  I only know a few people who like chicken liver.

My favorite bacon thing right now is bacon-wrapped pepper jack stuffed pepperoncini peppers.  These, IMO, surpass the bacon-wrapped cream cheese stuffed jalapeno.

All you need is a pack of bacon, a jar of pepperoncinis, a chunk of pepper jack and toothpicks.  Cooking them on the grill is best but you could use a broiler, too, I guess.

I've got to read the article as I doubt Tampa is one of the top 10 'foodie' cities but my wife makes those bacon wrapped dates and they're delicious. We might stuff them with a hard cheese down the road, but for now they are just simply pitted dates wrapped in bacon and baked. They are freakin' great.

While I'm the one that does 90% of the cooking, this is a dish that she has no trouble with and is a nice treat when she wants to put forth the effort to make dinner.

Well, if it's salt you want, you can always wash it down with a cold pint of soy sauce.

No Sonoran (Estilo Sonora) hot dogs?

To start with, a mesquite smoked bacon wrapped hot dog in a bolillo roll.  But then the toppings.

Pinto beans, chopped tomatoes, fresh and caramelized onions, jalapeno sauce, cheese, cream sauce, guacamole, mushrooms, salsa or pico de gallo, mayonnaise, ketchup and mustard.  They usually come with a roasted green or yellow chili on the side - sometimes even with roasted green onions.

My father used to make that.  Let's see, waterchestnut wrapped with bacon on a tooth pick dressed with teriyaki?  There was something also similar with chicken liver?

Oooow, I see you can do this with scallops also!  That would be my favourite.

The original recipe includes either chicken liver or a piece of foie gras, but I can see how some people with an aversion to liver might omit that part.

Had one for lunch today.  I was a rebel and put some jalapenos on it.

Great duck recipe by MLB pitcher Jonnathan Papelbon.

"What I do," Papelbon said, "you marinate it in Coke and Italian dressing, right. What the Coke does, the carbonation takes out all the game flavor. So you marinate it in Coke and Italian dressing in a Ziploc bag. Then what you do, you slice up a breast, quarter it in fours, and then you wrap those four little nuggets in bacon, jalapeno, and sour cream, so you wrap it all in a piece of bacon, pin it together with a toothpick, and throw it on a grill. It's amazing."

I've made it a bunch of times and has a great smoky flavor.
