(The Courier UK)   Scotland decides any vote for independence won't include incarcerated criminals. So they may or may not withdraw from the UK, but won't all move to Australia   (thecourier.co.uk) divider line 33

Oh, it looks like Scotland is talking about breaking away from the UK again.

Must be a day that ends in 'y'.

I would hope they would come to their senses. All my family immigrated to the US from Scotland. I've returned there many times. It's beautiful. But none of the stuff the Scots now do on their own comes up to the standards of a modern nation.

There are plenty of smaller nations that do just fine.

So the incarcerated criminals won't get to be independent?

/and furthermore comma

I've got mixed feelings about this. In theory, Scottish independence sounds great, as did devolution. In reality, the SNP is a horrible busy-body party and I'd rather not see them have more power.

They should join the EU and adopt the Euro.

Scotland would be unable to financially support itself.  Scotland leaving would be great for England.

They'll do just great if they get to take the oil with them.

Since I am half Scottish I feel like I should have more of an opinion on this, but most of my family over there hasn't made up their minds about it yet so I'm fine with being on the fence about it.

/not that anyone there gives a rat's ass about my opinion on the matter...

So is the author of the article somehow afraid of how the prisoners will vote, or is he just against them voting in principle? Neither possibility reflects too well on him.

Scotland can never be free. The people who invented haggis cannot be given free rein. Think of the danger to humankind if they create a next even more savage, more dangerous main course..

Yeah, yeah, the Scottish enlightenment...

Personally, I kinda hope it happens, as it would influence Wales to do the same and it would become very easy for me to put in for EU citizenship.

Yep. Plus being part of the EU takes care of a lot of the traditional requirements of being an independent nation so it would be easier than it would have been in the past. I'm wondering what happens to the rest of the UK if Scotland does become independent. Would Northern Ireland really want to stick out or go their own way? While there have been rumblings in Wales about independence, I doubt they'd ever leave but I'm not so sure about Northern Ireland, especially without Scotland around to counterbalance the dominance of England in the UK.

That's what the English said about the North American colonies.

No, the Protestants in Northern Ireland rely on the English and their military to keep them independent of Ireland.

Amusing though it might be for observers, Scotland is not going to vote for independence.

Sorry, folks.

No? Then I dinna care.

This is satire?

Or has Scotland just decided to start of their independence by abolishing democracy?

Those nations that do just fine don't include some place like Glasgow.

Second most prosperous economic area in the UK after London. We would be fine.  fark the SNP for not letting prisoners vote.  MSPs are afraid. To do the right thing because they don't want the backlash.  Taking away someone's right to vot. Because they happen to be in jail is terrible social justice.  They are people being rehabilitated, our prisons aren't for punishment.  More authoritarian shiate from the SNP. The quicker we re independent the quicker we can vote out that fat turd Salmond and get on with being a real country

What needs to happy is a decisive victory for one side or the other. If it's close, you get a Quebec situation where it becomes a distraction for decades.

In the UK prisoners don't have the vote to begin with. The decision that's been made is not to change the rules for this case, special circumstances notwithstanding.

Ah OK, then that's a different case then.

I guess if Scotland does decide to become an independent country that is something they can change.

North America is slightly larger than Scotland and has just a few more natural resources.
