The winner has pushed the pizza into the top echelons of modern gastronomy," said jury member Tommy Myllymäki in a statement containing more hyperbole than an Apple keynote speech

Pizza is perfect as it is. That's why it's called pizza.

Swedish people eat Lutfisk, which is a sort of rotten fish jell-o mixed with soap.  Bear that in mind when you contemplate how honored the winner of the Swedish pizza championships should feel.

Roasted bone marrow is actually very good.

Around here (MN), occasionally, if you're lucky, you might wander into a small town/neighborhood joint that offers sauerkraut on their pizzas.

Bizarrely good actually.

I'd try it.  The worst pizza topping I've ever had was scallops, the best was a horseradish/bacon/spinach combo, there's always room for some innovation.

This is why Sweden hasn't been a world power since the 17th century.

This sounds delicious.

And pineapple is still out.  Do people not understand how taste works?

Shrimp + sauerkraut is pretty good (South Dakota).  Especially since, you know, the pizza isn't very good in the first place so you're not ruining much.

I am wondering what the hell "Swedish pizza" is.  Before I read the article I would have thought it was some kind of pizza, much like I once thought "sweetbreads" were some tasty variety of bread.

Have any of the people complaining actually had bone marrow?  It's amazing.  I am guessing you are all seven years old or something

That's not the point.  Pistachio ice cream is quite tasty, too, but it doesn't belong on a pizza, either.

Cabbage?  Yuk.

Bone marrow is awesome, though.

It's just pizza, made in Sweden. They're big on pizza in Norway, something I thought was just my family, but turns out to be a common thing there to cook a froze pizza fairly often, so it doesn't really surprise me that they have pizza contests just across the border. Pizza is serious business no matter where you live.

The thing that surprised me the most about Scandinavian pizza was something I read recently. Pizza Hut's newly released (within the past year) pizza in Norway is topped with smoked trout and was quickly their best seller. The surprising thing about that to me was that it took them this long to put smoked trout on a pizza.

Updated, unless you think mutton and fermented mare's milk are the most delicious foods in the world.

Personally, after a week or two of Mongolian food, pizza topped with cabbage and bone marrow might taste pretty good.

If you're up for that, try what Thai's consider to be "seafood lover's pizza" (or just "seafood pizza").  It has variety, in the sense it has pretty much anything and everything that swims in the ocean as a topping.  Squid, shark, eel, you name it.

Korean pizza, even from the likes of Dominoes and Pizza Hut, invariably has corn.

A marinated artichoke heart is a vegetable.
Pineapple is a fruit.
Therefore, any fool can see that at least putting marinated artichoke hearts on a pizza isn't ipso facto grounds for a restraining order.

Fruit belongs in pies.  And don't give me any "pizza is a pie" crap.

Ok, you two have the top postings and don't like bone marrow evidently.  I have to say that it was one of the bestest things that my father (RIP) ever fed me.  It's the honey of the bone.

Fine.  I won't give you the "pizza is a pie" crap; I'll give you the "tomato is a fruit" truth.

Also, I'd think you'd give me more grief for putting a thistle on my pizza than putting fruit on there.
