Subby, did you make a mistake and link the wrong article? Cause that article makes it pretty clear that the cops didn't do a farking thing wrong, other than not actually killing the dude.

He should've been holding a pressure cooker and shouted "Allah Ackbar!"

At least that's how I would've done it.

"living within gunfire range of" is defined as "running with a knife towards"?

Just give it a while.  These "police brutality" threads always get plenty of outrage from the kiddies.

I don't understand the headline?

If the article is correct, I can't fault the police in this case.  Given subby's grasp of the facts, he should get a job at a major newspaper.  He's certainly qualified.

There are plenty of things to hate on cops about, and I'm usually one of the first in line to hate on them for those things.

This however is not one of those things.  It looks like the cops were completely justified here.

Pretty sure subby is aware of the cop hate. Probably just a Poe's law thing going on here

The Seattle PD, is brutal, petty and corrupt. But this time it sounds like they didn't do anything wrong.

Not only can I not fault them I would say i commend the Officer.  This was handled very very well which is sadly a huge surprise.

Looks like the cops did it right here. Surprised that the guy lived.

Good job by Seattle PD. I'm quite impressed that they managed to stop him without actually killing him.

Nice to see some of their good work get press coverage!

/yeah, Seattle PD has farked up a lot lately, not denying it.
//glad this case is different though, nice to see. :)

Yeah, it's not like their track record with knife weilding suspects is exactly stellar.

Subby must think no one at Fark reads the articles. 9 times out of 10 he'd be right, but every once in a while...

Lately?  The only more wretched hive of scum and villainy is traveling an hour north to Everett and watching officer friendly and his dozen clones hustle underage stoners for their stash and a blowjob.

But yes, in this case submitter is a tard and they apparently did nothing wrong.

As much as we here need to be suspicious of Seattle cops, this was not evidence for it. Just good the nut in question didn't go all shooty-shooty against the civilians.

I think they should have unloaded about 50 shots right in the chest into the guy.  There seems to be a trend of ass clowns who wish to die in a particularly horrific manner.  They load up with weapons and go to school or other public place, kill a bunch of innocents, and either kill themselves or have the authorities bring them down.  The only outlier (to my mind) is that douche nozzle in CO who shot up the Batman premiere but he probably just pussed out at the last minute and got arrested.

This guy with the knife did everything right by alerting the police and putting no one except himself in any real danger.  The police messed up by not obliging him in his death wish.  The police should have unloaded on him, cut off his head, put it on top of the Space Needle as a warning to others, and widely publicized the event.

If that happened, the next time some suicidal snowflake wished to go out in a blaze of glory perhaps he would have grabbed a knife and phoned the police versus shooting up an elementary school.

This or improve mental health counseling but that ain't happening anytime soon.

Outrage! The cop should have let the suicidal guy stab him first! That's what we pay them to do.

2013-06-07 04:56:02 PM
Well at least it sounds legitimate. Better than the standard, "he rushed at me with a knife and I shot him in the back of the head at point blank range."

/The other version is "I rearranged the crime scene as I shot him at 10 feet away as he was balled up on the floor and had already dropped the knife."  "he really pissed me off that he did not charge at me, so he denied me of my brave hero medal at the next awards ceremony."

I agree with the previous comments that it seems abundantly clear that the individual who was shot is mentally disturbed and was indeed seeking to commit suicide-by-cop.  Thankfully he didn't hurt anyone else and he survived.

However...

Not sure what angle subby was going for, but here is an actual story of excessive use of force by the Seattle PD:

http://www.komonews.com/news/local/102171019.html

and this is what the DOJ did in response:

I wonder if that's actually better that he survived.  How long do you think it'll be before this guy is back on the streets?

Cut subby some slack. It is the SPD we are talking about here. They will shoot you for giving them a dirty look. This is just one of those broken clock situations.

I get it, if you're some sad, mentally ill person with a knife that could be taken down with a baton, shoot to kill, but when the person wants to die, keep them alive.

It's like that reverse sadistic dentist scene Little Shop of Horrors.
