Stone Meadow: inner ted: sunami: The purpose of a stop sign is to facilitate traffic flow.  If on my bike I'm going to slow down and if there's nobody at an intersection I'm not going to stop.  If there is somebody there, I will definitely stop.

you are not very smart and i hope you wear a helmet

also hope the people you inevitably crash with are wearing proper safety gear as well

you are obviously a fan of "no helmets"

I guess that settles it...we'll go with stupid, since I am a big fan of helmets. I also ride still 60-100 miles a week year round at 60 years old, so am hardly a novice cyclist. It is your pompous attitude that impressed me, along with your certitude that sunami will inevitably crash into someone...presumably because he doesn't always come to a complete stop.

With this decision Sac. Co. is displaying uncommonly common sense IMO. Under many conditions bicycles simply don't need to come to a complete stop to safely negotiate intersections, and so the Co. is removing the signs. Good for them.

exvaxman: I was just waiting for another moron biker thread to post this yet again. For the umpteenth time a cyclist who blew through a red light and slammed into my car, flipping over the car and needing major back surgery due to the high speed he was riding and the way he hit the ground. Yet again, he has found an idiot lawyer that sent me a letter yesterday saying that I have to pay $$$. If I didn't have a dash cam, I would have been in real trouble. However the dash cam showed that I had a green light, delayed before entering the intersection, etc. as usual my lawyer will charge me $200 for sending a copy of the police report, the video, and ask that she be paid restitution for his lawyer bothering her and charging me if his lawyer does not pay up for not investigating before threatening to sue. The really sad thing is that my dashcam caught a biker blowing through a red light to have a cement truck go over her (he was going at a good rate of speed). Very obvious that she ran through the red to be killed. My local area has lots of parks, and I admit after these two incidents to being a jerk and calling the police on every major bike blow through stop sign that I see. The usually screaming jerks when the police pull them over shut up when I mention dash cam. On the better side, there are lots of organized bike rides in that area in the better weather months. The police guard every intersection and do a great job organizing traffic.

Are you able to recommend a quality dashboard camera?

Fark's sake, did you even read my post right above the one you replied to? State law in Idaho allows rolling stops and stop and go on red lights. It's not a problem. Why should bicycles have to stop at stop signs especially if it's plain old back neighborhood streets with 5 or 6 cars an hour.

Yeah, you can have MUPs. Speed limits are the only solution, because you have pedestrians wandering all over like baby ducks. Though it has gotten a little better as cycling has become more popular, the great majority of people out there still have no idea how fast a reasonably fit person a decent road bicycle can go. They have never gone faster than twelve MPH, except for that one time they scared themselves by hitting twenty two coming down a hill. As they cycle near walking speed, they can't imagine why anyone would get upset at them for (to give an example that I frequently encounter on the short section of a little used MUP that I occasionally ride on) walking on one side of the path, while their dog walks on the other, with the leash stretched across. So, the slowest common denominator wins, and they get the path. You don't have to threaten me with a ticket, I don't want to run over some little kid. So I stay away, and use the roads.

I don't care about either "cyclists", or "bikers". To me, they're all the same whether you're a fat faark on a hog, or on a cycle.I have both. Ride my cycle a lot more than my bike. Truth be told, I spent 3XS as much on my cycle as I did om my BMW. I've yet to take my  motorcycle out of my subdivision, but ride my cycle just about anywhere. Just bought a 29 incher cycle too.
Don't worry about speedometers, since I use a Garmin GPS. the Days of cheep Speedos, I passed that a long time ago.  I can plug mine into the lptop, it'll give me direction, time altitude, and I can import the data into google to give me a trip log on a map. Don't doi it often, but I can. Can also do heart rate too.
