Uhh, he said people who WASTE food are going to hell.

2013-06-06 02:25:39 PM
I'll tell God the same thing I told my mom.

If poor people want to eat these brussel sprouts and cauliflower, I'm willing to send it to them.

So... Pope Francis is a Jewish woman?

This is not going to be a fun papacy for the 1%, that's for damn sure.

You assume the 1% are wasting food...or care what a guy in italy has to say?

So not only are you telling me that the "poor" have refrigerators, but they have tables and food? We are just too good. Spare the rod, and all that.

I'm pretty sure "foodies" are filed under gluttony and little know 8th Mortal Sin, Douchebaggery.

The thing that bugs me is that accusatory "$390 per person per year wasted!" comment.

Does that include stuff like when Meijer throws out the bananas because they've been on the shelves for 2 days too long? Does that include the 3 pounds of kohlrabi greens that appear to come with kohlrabi simply to make it look less like a turnip? Does that weight include packaging? How about items that were pulled for safety concerns?

I have a warming regard for Pope Francis, but the American political support appears to be the usual "turn off your taps when you brush your teeth because you're the problem, not the apartment building next door that turns on its sprinklers at 4pm rain or shine."

Meh, Catholics think everybody's going to hell for everything and nothing. It's the biggest selling point- "Hey, just go talk to a guy in a little room, and say some prayers and you're golden."

2013-06-06 02:32:58 PM
you ever seen a foodie's plate? The portion sizes are barely enough for a toddler. And they pay way too much.

2013-06-06 02:33:15 PM
Well, definitely the ones who instagram their dinners.

2013-06-06 02:33:17 PM
Foodies don't really waste food do they?

They may be snobs and out of touch with the common man, but they don't really throw away food.  Esp not when you are paying a lot for small portions at your local fancy restaurant.

2013-06-06 02:33:35 PM
Foodies, at least the ones who I know who fit the definition, are more likely to eat "food" that most folks wouldn't label as being fit for hotdogs elusively meant to be fed to vultures.

There have been more positive Pope Francis threads in his first two months than I remember there being during the entire run of Pope Palpatine.

If there's anything I've learned about statistics, it's that they can always easily be broken down to a completely accurate per-person statement of fact!

Erm, not just any guy, but this isn't just any guy. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like to see an angry, warmongering pope but it has happened in the past.

Never forget that there are tens of millions of people willing to fight and die at his command. And hundreds of millions more who believe he can offer them limitless rewards; in this life and the next. The papacy is still a very powerful office.

You know what else is like stealing from the poor? Getting massive donations from people who think you are going to use it to help the poor and then using it to just accumulate massive amounts of wealth and gaudy crap for your palace.

Oh wait that's not LIKE stealing from the poor, that IS stealing from the poor.

To be fair, it also decomposes in your stomach to create potent greenhouse gases.

In some ways, I liked Popenfuhrer Benedict better. He didn't give a shiat about social justice and reform, and was completely honest about it. Pope Francis also doesn't care about those things, but really really wants to sell the image that it's a kinder cuddlier church now. It's no accident the church picked a Jesuit to lead the new deceptive marketing campaign.

Oh, nothing against Catholics. The doctrine of Original Sin is pretty endemic to Christianity. I'll give them that they at least ask for penance and not just contrition.

I fondly recall those meals I had as a kid.  I'd half eat the poorly prepared dinner and my Mom would tell me that people were starving to death in Europe and I was turning down perfectly good food.  I figured I killed more people than Hitler by the time I turned 18.

I'm pretty sure that the only term more absolutely meaningless on Fark than "foodie" is "hipster."

Don't expect them to read up on the subject of the current Pope.  That would be much too difficult

Actually, I believe he's genuine however; just because there's one honest man in the Church doesn't mean I believe the Church is honest.  It takes more than one person to change a long history of corruption, but there's nothing wrong with him trying.
