Hi, guys! I try not to bombard you guys with charity requests, but I thought I'd call on the power of Fark for this one. :)

Through the 501st, I got to meet Thomas, a 9-year-boy with cerebral palsy. His favorite thing on the planet is anything related to Boba Fett and, of course, we're more than happy to oblige. He wasn't supposed to live past five, but his parents (especially his mom) are his ferocious supporters and he loves them dearly. Aaanyway...

His parents like to do those Tough Mudder types of races and Thomas is always sad that he can't go because he can only walk with the aid of this half bike/half wheelchair contraption. Then his mom found the Superman Walks Project which is all about helping people who have lost a limb or are otherwise disabled achieve something amazing.

They got the Superhero Scramble in South Carolina on June 29 to agree to help Thomas with his dream, but it's going to take a lot of money (obviously) to set up the course so he can navigate through it. That's where you guys come in, if you have the resources.

At the bottom of the page I've linked to, there's a button to "Support Superman Walks Project." If you can, I'd really appreciate it if you gave them even the tiniest boost.

Thanks, everyone!

Boba Fett is a paid assassin.  That's not quite as bad as worshipping Hitler, I suppose.

Republic credits are no good here.

Additional awesome:

We showed up at Thomas' birthday party earlier this year, and we brought Boba Fett.  Thomas asked if we could lead him in an Imperial march around the neighborhood.  A picture of it made its way online to Jeremy Bulloch, the first actor to play Boba Fett.

But it's only June! What if...dammit, I can't think of a good funny charity to make this joke work.

Helps if I actually scroll down and look at what it actually says.  "Notify Admins."

I don't think mods can green things.

Already red :(

I kinda hope it goes green just so I can link that facebook screenshot to the spouse.  It wouldn't really make sense without the thread context and I'm too unmotivated to type it all.

IF NOT FOR THE KID, ADMINS, GREEN IT FOR TZIVA'S LAZINESS.

catering to my whims?  or did you mean something more altruistic?

JohDHJ: Why would they red this?  It's for charity!

dunno prolly cos a bunch of weirdos selling candles ruined it.

i mean, i get that fark gets a ton of charity requests and the admins want to protect the site from becoming a place where people beg for money, but the occasional one is should be fine.  Plus ASF and Kyro are known, long-time Farkers, so it's slightly less likely this is a scheme to fleece us.

2013-06-06 02:19:54 PM

Either...I'm not picky.

Tziva: Plus ASF and Kyro are known, long-time Farkers, so it's slightly less likely this is a scheme to fleece us.

I can't even see how much is donated. It's all being handled by Superman Walks. Last I heard, they still needed something like $7,500 to get everything together. I don't have that kind of cash, sooo...

JohDHJ: Why would they red this?  It's for charity!

KingKauff: RED? SERIOUSLY?

It would probably get auto-redded because it's not a normal news link that's recognized.

GREEN!  YAY!

2013-06-06 02:26:13 PM
