It's all I drink, but do yourself a favor and get an adapter so you don't have to pay 1500% more than you should for CO2.

That is a lesson I learned when a friend of mine decide he needed to shake his  Doogh (not a euphemism for his dong it is a carbonated yogurt drink) in the restaurant we were eating in.  I was able only to get the words "Don't do that you id..." out of my moth before the geyser began.

Of course when he saw that it was gushing all over like Vesuvius he decided he would try to cover the top of the bottle with his thumb, which only gave the viscous fluid more altitude spraying it all over the ceiling and a few customers at neighboring tables. Everything was soaked, it was like five minutes in the locker room after a pennant win.

I think that is possibly the largest embarrassment-inspired tip I have ever left a waiter.

You have piqued my curiosity.  Why doesn't milk work in a Sodastream?

It works but I guess that milk just can't hold the carbonation in. It just instantly acts like a can of Coke you have shaken for ten minutes  before opening.

I've been avoiding Sodastream as an investment because I can't discern what kind of legs it will have as a product long-term.  Looks like Pepsi and Coke will just buy anything that wanders into the beverage market.

I thought it sounded  cool until I remembered my BB guns that used CO2 cartridges instead of pumping.  They are cool and work and all, but you don't want to bust open a CO2 cartridge if you know you won't be using it for a few weeks as they always leaked.  Pretty soon you run out of cartridges and it sets there for two months before you buy more.... then again you get to where you don't want a cartridge.  So you try to sell it at a garage sale and you can't get someone to spend $5 on it even though you have $5 in the remaining CO2 cartridges.

Maybe because I'm single, and rarely drink anything other than Coffee, Water, Alcohol - but I can't justify the upfront costs to buy a soda stream.

Keyboard. I need a new one.

/css: We were on a bus between Paris, France, and Luxembourg City. Friend decides to pop the cork on a champagne bottle (we'd decided to have mimosas the whole way), but we'd been changing elevations constantly throughout the drive, so he didn't realize how ready the sucker was. He undoes the foil, the cork blows, and now we have a fountain of champagne in the back of the bus. My friend's response was to cover the bottle of champagne with his mouth. A couple of us girls were quite impressed with his performance considering he's straight.

I think I need to get people in the office to chip in to buy one.  For $10 I will carbonate anything and break the machine, but I feel like I would be more careful if it were $80.

Carbonated Vodak, save watering it down with those annoying mixers.

Sodastream got lots less convenient now that you can't switch out the empties via mail.

Fizz the water.  Turn the bottle at an angle.  Pour in flavor.

I don't have a link but I will second the idea of getting the adapter.  A buddy of mine and I went in on a kit that included new valves for the tanks, a scale, a few other things, and a siphon tank of CO2.  He's got a kid so they go through tanks more than I, but the refill kit paid for itself within about 6 months.

I carbonated vodka in a soda siphon. I thought it worked pretty well, but the problem was that now you had a whole bottle of carbonated vodka that you had to finish before it went flat again.

It depends. In order to properly carbonate hard liquor, I believe you need to get it super cold otherwise it won't carbonate very well. It's a physics thing having to do with solubility of the gas in the liquid, etc.

As an avid soda drinker (I don't drink coffee at all or alcohol more than a couple times a year, but have a Coke (or Pepsi or Dr. Pepper) at least daily), how good are these things?  Do they taste good, it is easy to use and clean, etc.?  I see people talking about how to do it even cheaper, but how about the actual product in question?

I use mine regularly, but not for the cola-type drinks. Those mixes just taste wrong. The imitation juices, however... Yummo! Add some cheap vodak and you have a party.

Perfectly reasonable.

The mixes suck...but I use mine exclusively for soda water. I've several iSi type siphons and all broke after a few years of heavy use. Plus the Sodastream makes a more carbonated water than the siphons--you can adjust the number of hits of CO2 you use and the charges are cheaper in the long run with a sodastream refill cartridge making about 60L of water.
And it's been around since the 70's in the UK when it was called "SodaClub"...I don't think it's going anywhere anytime soon.

The coke/dr pepper variants are bad.  They taste off.  Even the real sugar ones aren't much better.  I basically stick to the lemon lime.  The Mt Dew version has a hint of gatorade flavor to it.  The juice ones aren't bad.

I've used it less and less and started using Mio (which you can carbonate with soda stream too!)

Those will work. Basically it has to do with the composition of milk, the fats, proteins and their specifics etc as to why carbonating milk in a sodastream will produce a geyser.
