10,000 rounds of ammo is oddly unspecific. You buy ammo in 100 and 1000 round amounts. Ten boxes of .22 long is a trip to Walmart, or was before the gun grabbing started.

I have always purchased .22 ammo in 50 and 500 round boxes.

I say it again; Decriminalize drugs and you remove the money component -> Cheap drugs -> No need to have guns or turf wars as drugs are no longer profitable to criminals.

How difficult is it to understand the ways of capitalism?

We always got the plastic things with 100 rounds in them. I forget the brand. I assume they sell those in larger boxes like the 50 round boxes come in the 500 carton.

Heh.   And, truth is stranger than fiction; if some crime novelist made up that name, you'd be like "Oh, come ON...that's not realistic".

Also, anyone know what that gun is?  the clip won't play for me (been having some vid. issues).

I'm guessing that's the "illegal shotgun" mentioned in TFA.

"This person had the potential for some serious violence within the city of Glendale," O'Neill said.

He was one dude cranked out on meth. I'd like to see him carry all of that and THEN commit violence. Good luck!

Normally there are several sizes available depending on brand. CCI and Remington, for example, use plastic boxes of 100 for some types (Mini-Mags, Vipers) but 50 for others (Velociter). Federal used to use small cardboard boxes of 40 packed 10 to box for a brick of 400. I think Remington also sold a box of 525 for some reason. Someone on Fark mentioned a "bucket of bullets" that is sold at Dick's Sporting Goods but I don't recall how many were in there.

Regarding TFA, 10000 is a nice round number and apparently the first rung of the SCARY!! ladder.

I think it makes more sense to call the current silliness a "feeding frenzy" or "hoarding". "Gun grabbing" is the term the right uses to demonize the left.

Liam Burns: 10,000 rounds of ammo? What was he prepared for? A single weekend at the range or an Appleseed shoot?

I probably have about 5,000 rounds for my various guns. 10k really isn't a lot (but Goddamn heavy...), but I can see non gun people going "10,000 bullets? ZOMG! that's 10,000 dead babies!) because it does *sound* like a lot. What really gets me is when news agencies report that someone had 1 or 200 rounds like that's something really crazy to have. 200 rounds is the *least* I've ever gone to the range with. (500 being the most, but that's easy when you're shooting .22)

I think part of the reason is 200 or 500 rounds sound like a great deal more when at a school rather than a firing range.

My uncle used to buy multiple thousands of .22 at the start of summer. Not sure how many, but at least 2, and leave them in our cabin. The whole pile was a little larger than a tissue box and fit discreetly in little drawer in the bathroom.

10,000 .22 bullets would be like five tissue boxes in size. Not so much.

Comical firepower?

Why is it that the police don't like YOU to own a flak jacket?  That mentality frightens me.  If I want to spend a couple grand on something that i might never need, that's my business.

Heh... 10,000 rounds is a nice start.  I know people that go through that in 6 months of SAS cowboy action shooting competitions.

So, they're guilty of manufacturing meth.  The rest is anti-gun bed wetting...

Under normal circumstances, you would think so.
Problem is that the gun industry is relatively small and depends on return customers. Its the plinkers that eat up all those bullets more than the preppers.

A short term hike could be misconstrued as price gouging, which will hurt a business when things return to normal.

What regulations on ammunition sales do you propose? What benefit is served by banning pistol grips and collapsing stocks on popular civilian sporting rifles?

The firearms found were stolen. Most opponents of unreasonable restriction upon civilian firearm ownership do not advocate legalizing firearm theft.
