He's lucky that's all that happened. He's not the owner so it's not even his money. I'd say "Comin' right up!," give him all the bills in the register and wish him a nice day. I don't automatically regard my own money as worth getting shot over, so I damn sure won't risk it over yours. In such cases "heroism" is stupid.
