I've never seen E.T., and have no interest in doing so.

That list was...boring. I'm betting the movies are just as bad. I have no desire to see any of those.

2013-06-05 01:23:23 PM
I know I haven't been able to hear Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White for a couple of decades without thinking of Parents.

I've seen 10, 7, 6, 5 and 1.

Good list. Some I haven't seen. Shivers and Stroszek are a couple of my favorites. Shivers specifically is one of a handful of truly great horror movies ever made.

Just off the top of my head, I'd add these two:

ecx.images-amazon.com

I don't think this movie was released on VHS or DVD until 2005 or so, and even after that it fell in and out of print. Incredibly depressing and amazing, with an ending that people who need movies to "end" with everything wrapped up in a bow will hate.

The fact that this movie is called a "comedy" on its promotional posters is completely baffling to me. I think it's one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen about addiction of any kind, gambling or otherwise.

ecx.images-amazon.com

Another great movie it seems like no one's ever seen. My favorite boxing movie ever.

2013-06-05 02:12:55 PM
Seen the documentary on swingers.  Even think I saw it in the theater.

"Parents" is obscure?

The "Up" series is obscure?  Huh?  Its one of the most aclaimed projects in film history.

2013-06-05 02:28:24 PM
They must be drunk.  How do they know what I've not seen?

2013-06-05 02:31:51 PM
I recommend this one. Just as obscure, but I guarantee it's a lot more fun than any of those films.

2013-06-05 02:32:25 PM
Haven't seen any of those except for Forbidden Zone.

Seriously.

I've seen Jubilee. It's unwatchable, self-indulgent tosh.

2013-06-05 02:33:42 PM
D'oh. Let's try this again.

secularsage: I recommend this one. Just as obscure, but I guarantee it's a lot more fun than any of those films.

three for me and parts of "swingers"

2013-06-05 02:38:33 PM
I've seen all of them but numbers 4, 5 and, thank Satan, 9.

We had a lot of rep cinema/obscurity-oriented video stores in Toronto

You want obscure? Try De Illusionist. It has some of the funniest scenes I've ever seen, if you don't mind seeing them in a nearly silent Dutch surrealist film.

2013-06-05 02:38:47 PM
Myra Breckinridge should be seen because it's a weird mind fark of a movie.

The Stealth Hippopotamus: [img705.imageshack.us image 220x325]

Just saw this a couple of nights ago. Netflix streaming. You should watch it.

Saw it.  Good premise and looks good, but I think it needed one more draft.

Also, the gun kata is retarded.  Going up against a Grammaton Cleric?  Lay down and aim for his legs.  They don't move, and you won't get hit.  I wasn't impressed with the pistol slap fight at the end, but that's just me.

Parents is one hell of a good film.

Seen it and a long time ago at that... but, damn, this list is the first one of these where I haven't seen a single one of the movies.

Disagree. There wasn't an original thought in the entire movie.

Bathia_Mapes: I've seen 10, 7, 6, 5 and 1.

Were any of them any good?  They don't look good.

Apparently, Stroszek is what Joy Division's Ian Curtis saw the night he committed suicide. I don't blame him.

This is an incredible film:

In French with English Subtitles. Has yet to fail to make me smile when I'm in need. Tis not for everybody though..

Of the films in the original article, only films 2 and 8 have yet gone unviewed by myself.

I've seen Schizopolis.  And own a copy of it.  I like it because it's different.

The_Sponge: Hipster list is hipsterish.

Old list is old?

Saw John dies at the end. I don't know, guess this would be the crowd that watches it but no one else. Pretty good.

Great concert and rehearsal footage but I did weary of the dude pretty much just wandering the streets half the time

I've seen 2 of them. They were shiat.

Watched this last night. Rather liked it

Let's see here:

Hearts and Minds - saw that while in college just after it came out. Anyone who didn't know we were "sold a bill of goods" about Vietnam at the time wasn't paying attention.

Stroszek - saw that at the local art house and not long afterward saw "Aguirre" and then "Fitzcarraldo" as part of the same series. Can't say as I remember all that much about them, except the woman in Aguirre was pretty hot.

Myra Breckinridge - actually thought that was pretty funny, didn't know I was supposed to take it seriously.

Watch this one if you can:

Also, a little town called panic makes me laugh every time and Ink still gets me.

Just suggesting recent ones on Netflix streaming, don't mind that they aren't really that obscure

I must have watched "Parents" a couple of dozen times back when they played in on cable. I think it's some of Randy Quaid's best work.

I stumbled across a good movie on Netflix a couple of months ago called "Safety Not Guaranteed". It's was a surprisingly good film. I highly recommend it.

The Up Series is truly fascinating, but seems so unrelated to the others on the list.

Yeah, that's a particularly good docu, but I was predisposed to dislike McNamara since I had grown up watching him dissemble on the news every night.

Ages (early 80s) ago when I was living in rural NC after college, there was a local TV station that somehow had a stack of movies from Australia. They used to put them on after midnight (about the time I got home from work) as time-fillers and I wish I knew the names of half of them. Some of them were pretty good, and it's where I learned such words as "wanker." One I do remember:

Jubilee is a pretty good post-punk arty movie.  I really like the Queen Elizabeth/ John Dee "travel into the future distopia" angle.
