Don't we still give amphetamines to troops?  I know it was an issue in the trial of those pilots who bombed the Canadians about 10 years ago.

There's a reason that cold cooking meth is known as the Nazi method.

Deep Contact: As long as you didn't smoke. Hitler hated smokers.

Smokers... like Churchill, Roosevelt, Stalin, Eisenhower, and MacArthur? I can see why. Hitler was also basically a vegetarian, and not really a drinker.

You can have a steak, a glass of whiskey, and a cigar. Or you can be like Hitler. Your choice.

Dr. Max Jacobson, who developed a unique "energy formula" that altered the paths of some of the twentieth century's most iconic figures, including President and Jackie Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra, and Elvis. Birnes detailed how Jacobson was an internal medicine specialist who was trying to find a cure for diseases using blood serum. Over the course of his research, he developed a treatment which was so powerful that it made people very sick, so he added methamphetamines to the formula to make them feel better. Via his friendship with film director Billy Wilder, Jacobson developed a clientele amongst the New York entertainment community which sought out his "special vitamin shots," as they were called.
Jacobson's most prominent 'patient,' was President John F. Kennedy, who turned to the doctor's formula as a means of relieving a variety of crippling ailments. According to Birnes, Kennedy began receiving the treatments when he was a Senator and utilized the formula prior to the infamous first Presidential debate with Richard Nixon which swung the momentum of 1960 election. Following his victory, Kennedy became increasingly reliant on Jacobson's drug cocktail, Birnes said, and even tried to get the doctor to move into the White House.

We need a "No shiat?" tag, huh?  I've known this since I was a kid, and I'm old enough to have had kids graduating this year.  I guess it's easy to come up with filler articles when they don't teach anything and nobody pays attention in class these days.

Last year, someone at work said I looked like John Lennon (long hair, glasses, long nose, you get the picture), and a girl we work with said, "Who's that?"  After much disbelief, berating her, and then bringing up the Abbey Road cover, she said, "Oh yeah, I have that on a t-shirt!  But I've never heard the Beatles."

Today, the popularity of crystal meth use is growing in Germany, and the drug's prevalence increased significantly in 2012, reports The Local. Dr. Roland Härtel-Petri, an expert in addiction, psychiatry and psychotherapy, suggested it is easier for meth addicts to escape notice in Germany than it is in the U.S., where anti-drug campaigns use gripping images to publicize the horrifying damage addiction can do to the user's teeth and body.

I could understand the Brits not noticing, but I thought the Germans had better dental hygiene than that?

It lasted well into the 1960s at least; Dexies (Dexadrine) were commonly given out to people like pilots and
long-haul truckers until they were listed as a controlled substance in the 1970s.

Opium was big in the Orient before the invention of the wheel; it has
traditionally been an embarrassment to the business community and
a foul stain on the social fabric.

But so what? All they do is lay down and smoke. They become giddy
and useless - but never violent or dangerous. . . . And it wasn't a gang
of opium fiends who bombed Pearl Harbor and burrowed like crazy
moles into caves on Iwo Jima, killing 200,000 Americans and countless
millions of their own kind.

No. Those were the sober people, the smart crowd. They were Japan's
best and brightest. There were no pictures of Tojo lying around on a
bamboo mat with an opium pipe on his lips. He was too busy for that
kind of foolishness. There were bombs to be dropped and throats to be
slit. There was a whole world out there to be conquered; they had no
time for opium.

Whatever style of logic may have prevailed in the corridors of the Jap-
anese War Ministry in those years has never been totally explained -
but it has never been linked to drugs, like the Nazis, or to any other
cheap vice.

It was a need for oil and a lust for power and 10,000 people calling
you "sir" and chanting your name like a prayer every time you went
out in public.

They all wanted to be on the team. It was like doing the Super Bowl
Shuffle, along with the Fridge and the rest of the boys. It was dumb,
but it worked. . . . And it was not smart, in those days, to argue with
anything powerful enough to crush Spain, China and France in less
time than it took to age a good bottle of wine.

Dope fiends have always been with us, and they are guilty of many
things, but a compulsion to rule the world has rarely been one of them.
Power mongers are early risers; opium eaters sleep late. Tojo woke up
with the sun, and Hitler was so paranoid that he never slept at all.

Of course the Nazis used amphetamines.  All armies use drugs to improve performance.

They'd be stupid not to.  "You might die" and "you will do horrific things to people" are pretty weak arguments against using the drug when it's already your plan to do either or both of those things.

Come on people, think about it for five seconds.

Pilots who take it are required to take it under study by a flight surgeon or aerospace physiologist, and have a mandatory rest period after taking it once its effects on the individual are baselined. Changes to the baseline effects are carefully monitored over time, and not all pilots are allowed to use it, and some are required to stop using it if the amount to achieve the baselined effect chages too much.

German scientists developed amphetamines, but it was the Americans who developed the much stronger methamphetamines after the war.  Blue-collar workers, esp. those in meat-packing plants, used them a lot, in order to work two shifts, in order to be able to pay all their bills.  Then the agro companies hired illegal migrants and fired the US blue collar workers, who tried to pay bills by making meth themselves, with variable success.  Now Mexican mafiosi have undercut the smaller US makers through outscaling and out-distributing them.
