Yeah, but for all intensive purposes it's a mute point, considering they both just totally ripped the whole song off the classic  Ice Ice Baby.

That's why John Deacon changed the bass line.  It's understandable though.  When you can sample from the artist who created such classics as Ninja Rap, you do it and settle the legalities later.

This is just so creepy awesome divorced from the instruments. I guess anyone could be said to have a narrow range when standing next to Freddie.

Freddie seemed like such a cool guy.  I'm basing that solely on his Live Aid concert and wiki entry, though, he died when I was a kid.

First off, the mix on Under Pressure is awesome. Second, Freddie Mercury was one of the most talented performers ever.
Pocket Ninja, very subtle, but effective.

FTFA: Bowie also insisted that he and Mercury shouldn't hear what the other had sung, swapping verses blind, which helped give the song its cut-and-paste feel.

I saw a TV documentary recently - Freddie Mercury: The Great Pretender - that featured rare footage of Freddie talking about that recording session. Freddie admitted that he sneaked into Bowie's sessions and listened to what Bowie was singing, which is why the two harmonized so well.

So much for that "cut-and-paste feel".

Irregardless, there are much better examples of Mercury's vocal range ("Tie Your Mother Down," "Bohemian Rhapsody," excettera).

True - Just watching the Live Aid concert gives me chills. How many people could perform live with that level of perfection these days? Not many so-called artists can match what the studio creates for them. If I need inspiration I watch that clip.

He got that entire audience to eat out of the palm of his hand from the moment he stepped onto the stage. "Charisma" isn't even a strong enough word to try and describe him.
