The sight of two Asian elephants doing headstands in the sand on Del Mar's Dog Beach

I'm enjoying trying to imagine what would run through the mind of a dog that saw that.

I lived in San Diego for many years and the weather is not perfect.  In fact, it's cloudy/gloomy a *lot* more days of the year than not.

Oh, and no one in San Diego County calls it the San Diego County Fair.  It'll always be the Del Mar Fair.

How about a NSFW subby?
Those two girls are naked.

Yes, I agree with subby about the question of attractive women on the beaches.

SD is way more uptight that people think.  It's a military town filled with the people of Orange County that are vigilant, anti-smokers.

Hey, Those elephants are ruining Bikini Beach

Well, what are you gonna do about it Moondog?

I'm gonna challenge the dominant male to a surf contest. Whoever surfs though Slaughter Chute first gets Bikini Beach for the rest of the summer!

Oh Moondog! No one has every successfully gone through Slaughter Chute!

You know what, baby? You're right. Let's blow this pop stand and move down to Thong and Hand Bra Beach.

I think we've been there for vacations a total of ten to twelve weeks over the years.  Almost always in September (it's actually the warmest average month for San Diego, and the kids are back in school, so the hotel is quite a bit quieter).  Number of days we have encountered that were socked in by clouds and cool weather all day:  Zero.

We went last March, and on the day we left, it looked like it would be a cool, cloudy day all day.  Then we got to the airport around noon, and lo and behold, the sun broke through.

If we went in January, I wouldn't be surprised if the weather was less than what I'd call ideal, but it would still beat the hell out of Chicago.

They should have taken them to Black's Beach. They wouldn't have even been the biggest girls there.

I think subby meant...... Ahhhh San Diego... Perfeccione tiempo, mujeres atractivas, y los elefantes en la playa. ¿Espera qué?

I used to surf Black's Beach regularly....I never saw any women there, only dudes.  Then again, maybe that was a good thing!  We would all be hiding our eyes except for one of my friends, who loved to egg the rest of us on.  "Ohhhh look bro, look at that dude!  Look what he has pierced!"  We would all have fingers in our ears going LA LA LA I'M NOT LISTENING TO YOU SHUT UP

Where were you staying?  Funny thing in SD....you can go to the beach and it'll be completely gloomy.  Go a mile or so in from the beach, totally sunny.  I recall when I first got there, I asked the local guys I worked with about the gloom.  They said it wasn't uncommon to have gloom for 200 or more days a year.  We used to check the beach, and if it was socked in we'd go down to Hotel Circle, find a convention and crash the pool.  We spent a lotta time on Hotel Circle.

Depends on when you go to Black's Beach. Seen plenty of ahem.. ladies there as well. I think it depends on what time of day/year you go, though. Other times you are just as likely to see a bunch of old naked guys who should really not be old and naked.

As for the 'gloom' it is indeed a thing here. In fact right now the June Gloom is in full swing. Looking like this will be a good year though and it will clear up for July and on. A couple years ago the weather was really odd and the 'gloom' hung around pretty much until September and there wasn't really a summer. That kind of sucked.

Yeah, but it's a cloudy 75, versus a cloudy 55-with-blowing-fog like San Fran.    Tank tops and shorts, vs fleece jackets and jeans.

Not complaining either way, just sayin...

Oh yeah. That was awful. We pulled out the portable A/C from the garage for the first time in a long while and pretty much just kept to the one room we were running the A/C in. I know compared to Arizona or something it's laughable.. but here in SD we get skurred when the temperatures deviate from 70-80F.

A lot of the summer nites I'd have to put on a sweatshirt, it could be brisk after the sun goes down.  I went a show one evening at Hudson's on the Bay in Mission Bay, and I wore short sleeves.  I think it was in June.  BIG mistake....I was miserable!  Luckily they had long sleeve T-shirts for sale.

But you're right about San Franciso....just look at the folks in the stands at any Giants baseball game.  They're wearing huge down jackets and ski hats.  And we won't even talk about how cold the ocean is there.  In SD the water was bone chilling.  A friend came to visit around the 4th of July one year, and for some reason the water temp had gone back down to the low 60s during that time.  He was all like "I've GOT to go in the Pacific Ocean!"  My reply:  "You ain't gonna make it.  Look at me in a full wetsuit as I'm off to go surfing."

He made it.....about midway up his shins.  The water didn't even get to his knees before he gave it up.

Surfed Blacks, ran screaming into the water many times.

Gravity is a cruel mistress.
