Oh, that sucks. Not trying to say anything bad about anyone's best friend or anything but I've always liked big dogs better. I do kinda miss being able to hold my dog in my lap when she was a puppy but she's such a sweet big old mutt I couldn't imagine having a smaller dog now.

Large corporations often have many divisions that make many different products.
Since when has Ric Romero started submitting headlines to FARK?

Small dogs suck but are still preferable to cats.

Who makes M&Ms?

The White Man!

Naw, dig, dig...Mars Candy Company

They make dog food on Mars? I thought the Rover ran on solar power - not kibble?

I did just the opposite. I went from a small dog to a big dog.

I used to have a Rat Terrier until I moved and couldn't bring him with me. He now lives with my mom. I have been here for three years now, and just bought a house. My mom doesn't want to let the little guy go, so I wound up getting a couple of Boxers. One I've had for a year now, and we just got another puppy a couple months ago. Awesome dogs.

I have to say, I like having big dogs better.

Where's that big chart of who owns which brands?

There are like 3 companies that "make" all the food we can buy. That covers dogs, cats, people, etc.

I like all size dogs, but it's hard to argue with the fact that smaller dogs are far more convenient. I have a small dog and we can strap her into a car seat on trips, she doesn't take up much space on the floor and her crate can double as a cat carrier.

Plus, I don't even have to pick up her poop (from my own yard, anyway) 9 months out of the year because it's small enough that when the weather is warm bugs and rain will have it gone completely within a day or two. And she's a hell of a lot easier on the wallet to feed.

Just put the big ones on the roof. I like all sizes as well but big dogs are more expensive to feed obviously but are also a lot more expensive to Vet than out 17Lb border terrorists since shots and just about everything else is price based on the dogs weight.

I thought it was fairly well known Mars owns Pedigree...maybe not,

What worries me, is I live in a town in the UK, that not only has one of the main Pedigree plants in the country, but also is home of the Pork Pie (yes Melton Mowbray folks)....I can't help wonder what dodgy deals go on between the two manufacturers of both products....

Its amazing. People buy $200 pairs of jeans from a chocolate company.

Most apartment don't allow large dogs, and since most Americans can't afford their own homes....you do the math.

Also, if you actually feed your dog Pedigree, you're an asshole who has no concern for his pet.

Mrs. Gig103 would disagree that you can't hold your grown dog in your lap. Our 85 pound black lab shares her lap on the recliner.

Interesting. I did not know about Mars owning Pedigree, but I use Costco food since it gets better ratings than Iams and Pedigree (and is cheaper). I found out that Costco is Diamond Foods, after they had a recall.

Neat. I'll bet there's a similar chart for industry with the likes of GE, Siemens, Samsung, Hitachi, etc.

Having grown up with a Shih Tzu, I can definitively say that I will never have another carpet rat.  It'd better be a real dog.  Little dogs are dumb little yappers.

I prefer cats.

And my 40 pound pit puppy would also disagree.  As would my parent's 120 pound newfoundland (that one doesn't last for long, obviously).

I don't really see a problem here, if the avarege dog is smaller just put more of them in the food.  Duh.

Looked at the chart. Didn't see Blue Buffalo listed. Feel oddly better about my choice now.

/yellow lab - chow chow mix
//short hair, curly tail, purple tongue
///after 2 years she still tries, and fails, to get the cat to play with her

RE: people are going from large dogs to smaller ones

Where I live the most popular dogs are:

Pit bulls
Chihuahuas
Pugs

I see lots of other breeds, but I can't walk for more than ten minutes without seeing all three breeds above.

We have two Boxers.  Both are adult females.  The second one was a rescue. She's pretty mellow, but wants to be loved at all times.  The first one is wide ass open, and will try to lick your face until you scream.  When you do scream, she will then slip you the tongue all the way to your uvula.  Good times.

To address the article.  More and more people are buying the super premium dog foods for their pets. Brands like Blue Buffalo, Merrick, Taste of the Wild, Source, as well as others have to be gaining market share.  Some of these go for around $60 for a 30 pound bag.  People love their dogs.

Haha, I thought u what the farmed about the price of shots being higher for bigger dogs, not the fact that his dog is a terrorist! For puppy shots and yearly boosters, the prices are the same no matter what size the dog...cortisone shots, antibiotics, and anesthesia are all based on weight tho...

The dude that owns all 8 companies owns most of the banks, too.
The dude that owns all the banks lives in a 500 square foot pent house on top of a skyscraper in Japan, and has a 1 square foot zen garden in his window.
I think about him when I'm pulling weeds and paying my mortgage.

Small dogs are evil. My grandmother has a Pom and I'd like to punt that thing over her house every time I go over there.

My neighbors have a pit bull, love that dog. I don't have a dog because due to the spastic nature of Granny's Pom, Lil Bee has a fear of dogs. He's finally starting to get over with, he has started petting my best friend's Weimeraner and my cousin's French Bulldog. Still hates granny's rat dog, not that I blame him.
