In college... I was friends with Erik Wahl.

That was pretty farking weird to see his name.

CSB?

i know it's fun to bash the IRS, but they're hugely underfunded and understaffed, highly demoralized and have a massively important job to do.

if we really want to talk about government waste, let's make all congressmen fly coach or pay for their junkets out of their own pockets.

And the pentagon has spent over a trillion dollars on a plane that cant fly.  Not saying this isnt an issue, but there is a much bigger problem that needs to be addressed.

So?

it's good to see this with our new transparent administration. it seems to be working!

I got so far into my obscure tax return that the sheets had no name.

That 17k would pay off the remainder of my ten year old student loans and most of the rest of my wife's loan. So yes, I am annoyed with it.

Sigh. Subby, it's too late tonight to drag the past out into the light.

if they wanted happiness they could have obtained an old VHS copy of Bob Ross painting and let them watch that.

And that's why the "we can't cut gov't spending" line is bullshiat. Sure we can. You just have to do it smart. One side's eager, the other is dumb. Together it gets nowhere.

The IRS has 106,000 employees, and processes 174M tax returns per year, some of which are hundreds or thousands of pages in length due to labyrinthine laws imposed by Congress.

I'm farking thrilled that they spend a little on training and morale.

Christ, so much this. As if every work conference ever held hasn't had its share of ridiculous sounding speakers and exercises. This might be the one time a group really needed to hear from a happiness expert.

Langdon Alger: if they wanted happiness they could have obtained an old VHS copy of Bob Ross painting and let them watch that.

I've wondered that same thing. Recently four Detroit pension fund trustees went to a conference in Hawaii to learn how to do their jobs better. $22,000 more out of the Detroit pension fund. What's wrong with some of these guys actually teleconferencing or receiving a tape of some of this stuff instead of booking time w/ experts?

2013-06-04 03:55:41 PM
I would be willing to hire these experts once their contracts expire. They'll make excellent mural painters and will be fully trustworthy once they have been rehabilitated. I see a bright future for them in both healthcare and banking.

When I heard all the outrage about the "training video" and saw the numbers I thought the produced it pretty cheaply, to tell the truth.  Video is freaking expensive.

I need to get a job at the IRS. What a great racket...

- Subjectively smite those you disagree with at will
- Party like rock stars on the taxpayer dime
- Above the law
- Friends in high places
- Armed troops to put down any citizens who publicly protest against your behavior

Those gangsters got it down...

We had a similar guy, if not this guy (don't remember the name), come to one of our corporate events, and do some real-time painting like this. Apparently, it's all the rage. I didn't get it. But then I suppose it was more interesting than watching a powerpoint.

Or, don't pay them if they don't do their jobs.
And, why do "our employees" decide what we get for health care, when they're covered forever?

Don't forget you can make your neighbors tame their children/pets so you wont have to put up with their crap in your yard. And if you have an HOA you can make them misrable for having a bush 2 inches over height.

partial threadjack I know, but while there are a lot of big things that need to be cut, some of these little things need oversight too. From the Detroit thing I mentioned, that $22,000 is about 1/2 a year of another policeman on the street in Detroit that was spent for 4 guys in Hawaii for 2 days in a city being ran by an unelected official. Now I know the money wouldn't go to what it needs to like police/fire in the city and would end up in another politician's pocket, but jeez, at least be a bit sneakier about it.

/new talk is they're going to sell art from the DIA and giraffes from the zoo to help w/ the Detroit debt. We've got the best minds on it.

If they're blowing that much money on stupid shiat then maybe, just maybe, they don't need to raise the interest rates for upcoming loans. Or maybe they could at least stop complaining about the ever impending omgwtfiscalcliff!

I'm more impressed that their loans are only the per-capita $0.00005 or so. Of course, that assumes the 17k was a loss in the first place.
