I wish people would remember that satire requires humor.

Had me going for a minute, because it's not unprecedented.

2013-06-04 12:32:54 PM
A sterling example of Poe's Law here.

2013-06-04 01:40:28 PM
I don't get why you people are laughing. The Marijuana Documentary Reefer Madness was totally factual. Marijuana leads directly to harder drugs, like crack cocaine and methamphetamines. It's also directly responsible for the holocaust.

Being a GOPer directly leads to being a fascist moron.

2013-06-04 01:52:26 PM
Well obviously state legislators enjoy special privileges that other people do not  .... keeping these dangerous criminals away from society is a major priority, not to mention the jobs we are able to create in the prison and judicial system in general

Holy crapcakes.  He actually said that.

Poe's law at work.  I believed the whole thing.

I blatantly fell for something like this a few weeks ago and submitted it (Bachmann promising to leave Minn if gay marriage passes) and got a greenlight out of it too.  I'm just a huge hypocrite

After the session adjourned Rep. Alvin was questioned about the joint he had in his pocket and his remarks made in opposition to the bill.
"Well obviously state legislators enjoy special privileges that other people do not"

WTF???
Are you serious?
Why wasnt he arrested?
We need the FBI and Justice department to look into this.
Clearly, any law enforcement who were present should be detained for questioning, until the truth comes out!

I thought it might be satire when i saw in the sidebar: Child smokes K2, eats dolls face

Then again, it is Texas. Only slightly less wacky than Florida.

2013-06-04 02:57:50 PM
It may be satire but isn't that what always happens? A politician who is very vocal about a subject turns out to be a huge hypocrite? At this point, any time anybody tries to lead a crusade against drugs, crime, homosexuality, or whatever, they should immediately be charged with that crime, investigated and brought to trial. Maybe it's time we take away politicians' rights while they're working for us.

2013-06-04 03:00:09 PM
I was always suspicious of those joint legislative sessions, and now there is confirmation.

2013-06-04 03:08:36 PM
"What was the last project you successfully completed" is, in fact, a trick question

"Are you willing to travel", just seems cruel.

2013-06-04 03:14:25 PM
What the?

Ignore that.

I like the roll of your joint cut of your jib.

So "Dumbass" refers to subby who fell for this?

Dusk-You-n-Me: Had me going for a minute, because it's not unprecedented.

The best part was that he got a fine smaller than you'd get in NY for a speeding ticket and didn't even have to show up for court. NY is such a shiathole.

Speaking of which, when do we get a Texas tag? Come one Drew, pretty please?

Satire works better when Poe's Law doesn't intersect at the corner of Texas Ave. and Florida Blvd.

2013-06-04 03:32:48 PM

MensRea: So "Dumbass" refers to subby who fell for this?

Consider me a "Dumbass" as well.  I fell for it until the "[Marijuana] is so addictive that people can become hooked on it just by touching it." line.

Everyone knows that you will become hooked by just seeing someone smoke it.

2013-06-04 03:34:11 PM
Thought it may have been real,a prosecuter in New Orleans dropped a joint on the floor in the middle of court about a year ago, I don't believe he was fired.

2013-06-04 03:35:47 PM
You can't satire what is already absurd.

2013-06-04 03:36:42 PM
Fake.

Although as a demonstration of Poe's Law it is certainly interesting.

Less than normally, I think.  I think this article was written to be as realistic as possible to get people to say "Wow, this really happened".

As opposed to Obama spending a billion dollars on a super-mosque or something that would make a reasonable person say "This doesn't seem real".

I thought it was possible until I read:' "Well obviously state legislators enjoy special privileges that other people do not" he stated. ' Given that this is Texas I figured he'd be put up against a wall and shot with a statement like that.

To be fair, people in prison are not counted as unemployed.
