Potter, pastor of Brookside Baptist Church, said he was taking his great-grandson to Kays Ice Cream nearby when his foot slipped off the brake onto the gas pedal.

Does the AARP train old people to use the "My foot slipped onto the gas pedal" at some secret seminar? I think someone does, because they use that excuse everytime they get in a wreck.

Uh, wait, wait, don't tell me. I've heard this one....

2004-01-04 12:20:45 PM
You mean this sort of thing doesn't only happen in Florida? Hard to believe...

2004-01-04 12:22:00 PM
An old person driving a Caditank? Color me surprised.

2004-01-04 12:23:12 PM
what!? it wasn't a Country Kitchen Buffet...

"Weve had it happen before, but its not really common," city Police Officer Sherman Eury said.

Well no shiat... He's a regular Dick Tracy. Somebody promote this genius.

What I don't get is how they always "confuse" the brake with the gas. Were these pedals different at some point?

echo?

2004-01-04 12:24:47 PM
plautus - Wow, I just read that as "Country Chicken Buffet". Freaking Girl, Interrupted my mind was.

Old folks (even those over 80) are much less statistically likely to cause fatal traffic accidents than teenagers - which means that a whole hell of a lot of the little farks who are going to demand that their driving privileges be revoked have no business driving themselves.

teens who get into car accidents and are at fault should have their liscenes taken away from them as well.

As a rule, I think that if you drive into a store, your license should be removed. It's just good policy.

2004-01-04 12:31:39 PM
Old people cause less accidents, yes, but why? Because old people die. Teenagers cause more accidents because there are loads of teenagers in the U.S. and more every year. Old people, believe it or not, are in limited supply.

2004-01-04 12:34:16 PM
RandyJohnson I've wondered the same thing. That seems to be the excuse of choice. Since it's so popular, it must be effective.

Old people also never drive the speed limit, they always drive slower, they do 45 mph on the highway, in Montana, during summer. How can you cause a fatal accident when you are doing 15 mph? Besides flying off a cliff it is pretty difficult. Now doing 100 mph, now that will increase the chances of a deadly accident, at that speed, shiat just starts jumping out of nowhere at you.

No! Shocking! This never happens.

"can you cause a fatal accident when you are doing 15 mph?"

by going to slow on an interstate highway. I was riding with a friend to go do some charity work for the girl scouts, when all of a sudden this car in front of us hits the brakes, hard, decelerating from 65 to 40, with a righthand turn signal on. They didn't move into the other lane as indicated, and paniced. Thankfully, we didn't rear-end them into oblivion. We only noticed it was old people when we passed, by the way.

Old people suck at driving.

Another example: My grandma (now deceased from old age), "Those kids shouldn't ride their bikes at dusk, they know old people can't see them." My mom, "Then it's the old people who shouldn't be on the road!"

2004-01-04 12:44:01 PM
When I get old, I expect to be test yearly to continue to drive. That's only smart.

/smiling at fond memory of Grandmother driving, scaring the bejesus out of me, swerving & causing accidents. mmmm..

2004-01-04 12:44:36 PM
tested. test-ed

2004-01-04 12:45:16 PM
Old people going 45 in all lanes side by side don't cause car accidents, they cause shooting deaths

2004-01-04 12:46:36 PM
Center lane straddlers & left lane lollygaggers make my head explode.

2004-01-04 12:47:01 PM
Reaction by average driver: "Oh, shiat, that's not the brake."

Reaction by old driver: "Why does this brake feel so loose. Let me look down there... oh, why is this car going faster? Ohhhh, I'm going to crash! Slam on the brake!" *KA-BOOM!!*

The cliche is alive and well, my friend. Long live the farmer's market.

I'd like to thank Werbal_Kint for that horrifying, yet interesting look into an old person's brain.

Also don't forget the perpetually pissed old person.

"How are you today ma'am?"

"I'M FINE!!"

Here's a good pic of an elderly accident. It's hard to imagine just how it happened.

The old should be shipped to Florida instead of Nebraska. Then they should be enclosed with meth heads for target practice. Two problems solved!

2004-01-04 01:46:26 PM
Meth heads just steal my bricks, they don't cause car accidents.

2004-01-04 01:52:25 PM

I disagree. The difference is that teens who get into accidents do so because they're being careless and stupid, old people who cause accidents like this simply have waning motor skills and are physically incapable of avoiding these things.

Not always. Christmas day there I tried for miles to get around a FL tagged Lincoln with a geezer behnd the wheel. He would run about 70 in the left lane and every time someone tried to pass on the right he moved right and sped up. If they pulled to the left, he moved left. It was as if he was the hall monitor and running interference to make sure we all stayed at the legal limit.

2004-01-04 02:00:18 PM
There's no way to determine which teens should have their license revoked until they mess up since they can usually pull it together for any driving tests they are given.

(Some) Old people are just incapable of driving for any number of reasons, it sucks, but that's life.

Unfortunately I live in the area... I remember something about 50% of the local population being over the age of 50 (I'm too lazy to actually verify, plus I see it for myself every day).

I wonder if he blamed Jesus for the accident? ;) - If not, he should have!

2004-01-04 02:23:06 PM
It's amazing how calm everyone in the salon was about the whole situation. Like, "(yawn) Some more hair products flying, musta got a bad shipment again. Oh wait, there's a car, too."

craftyqb

Since you live in the area, maybe you can tell me what the 3 cities are. I'm guessing Bristol and Johnson City from the page, but can't figure out the 3rd.
