'Gimme Pancakes', maybe.

It took me about a week of sneaking around before I could unload the Pittsburgh stuff, but when I did, it was a real score. I started using Sandy's place to mix the stuff and even with Sandy snorting more than she mixed, I could see that this was a really good business. I made twelve thousand dollars in my second week. I had a down payment on my house and things were really rolling. All I had to do was every once in a while was tell Sandy that I loved her. But it was perfect, I'm telling ya. As long as I kept getting the stuff from Pittsburgh, I knew Paulie would never find out. Within a couple of weeks, it got to be so big I needed some help. So I got Jimmy and Tommy to come in with me.

I have a few recordings from that tour and she just nails it every night.

However I think the appeal of the original is that it's imperfect....that crack in her voice at the right time gives a very necessary vulnerable moment to the song.

Which is why Adele could be an interesting choice. Her singing is full of little squeaks and imperfections, which is what gives me goosebumps.

Exactly.  It's why I prefer to listen to Aretha and Billie Holiday and Joss Stone over Diana Krall.  There's a warmth and vulnerability in the voice that I prefer.  If I want technical perfection I'll listen to something else.

I think Diana is incredibly talented but I mostly find alot of her singing to be too perfect for me to enjoy.  By no means do I discount her as a musician, writer or performer.  It's just not my thing.

The lovely lady with the farking incredible pipes is Lisa Fischer.  She's been in their touring band since 1989.  I've seen them perform this song twice, the first time, I turned to my friend and an announced I could now die happy.

A must see for fans of that song, Between the Fischer clip, the isolated original track (and story behind it), and many other stories from the unheralded singers, it's an amazing document.

Adele is talented but Merry Clayton's role in that song is timeless. You can hear Mick yell 'woo!' After she cracks that note. That crack IS the song.

I like that one Scorsese movie where he has that scene with the Stones song.  That one movie is really, really good.

i think you're getting your songs mixed up (unless you know something I don't) - the lady that did the scream on that "Dark Side Of the Moon" song lost her baby days after recording her screams.  I don't know if this lady lost formed babby but I know the lady in the PF song lost formed babby.

OH, THEY NEVER WOULD'VE FOUND IT!

Article says that Mick HAS BECOME as big a diva as Adele.  Anybody know if that is indeed some recent development?

Adele might be able to handle it, but it's more likely to be a "great pipes/wrong style" event in the spirit of "Fear (with special guest Luciano Pavarotti)"

also, Meredith Jones (or Hunter, whatever his name was) was NNNNNNNNNNNNNOT killed during "Sympathy For the Devil"; he was knifed during "Under My Thumb".

"Merry Clayton's spine-chilling vocal on the Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" is one of the most famed in '60s rock. But the 1969 classic brings painful memories to Clayton: The physical strain of the intense duet with Mick Jagger resulted in a miscarriage after the session."

This.  I just don't see Adele having the ability to let loose anywhere near as well as Clayton. Like everyone else has said, it's how out of her goddamned mind she sounded by the end of her solo that makes it what it is.  Adele just doesn't strike me as someone who can let loose enough.

\then again, this is the same person who doesn't know that there's a reason keyboards have transpose buttons

It would be a coup for the Rolling Stones to get Adele? I don't care if she is being reclusive, I think it would be an honor for Adele for the Stones to even consider her.
