Jim Kelly's backup QB for all four of those Super Bowls was Gale Gilbert. After the fourth loss, Gilbert signed with the Chargers as a backup to Stan Humphries. That was the year the Chargers went to the Super Bowl.

Gale Gilbert, therefore, has the honor of being the only NFL player in history to appear in five straight Super Bowls, and the additional dubious honor of having been the only NFL player to appear in five straight Super Bowls for the losing team.

Technically Frank Reich was the backup. Gilbert was the 3rd-string QB.

Yes, Jim Kelly lost four Super Bowls, but how many QBs have ever been to the Super Bowl even once, let alone have the talent to lead them to four straight appearances? Dan Marino only went once, John Elway lucked out later in his career to win two though before that it appeared he would never win one. Just luck of the draw that he could never win one.

5-year survival rate above 50%.

I'm willing to bet those are better than Ralph Wilson's 5-year survival odds.

Kick it's butt, Jim. He was one of the greatest ever. One of the Pennsylvania boys, hate to say it, but PA quarterbacks top a lot of lists of the greats.

it is said charles haley had, uhh...... something else that was pretty big, if you read the Cowboys bio a few years ago.

/i think he hazed Troy AIkman by stretching "it" across the lenght of a table and kept saying "hey rook, turn around, check this out, you gotta see this" and eventually the guy did.

Well, there are 50+ other guys that need to do their jobs too. In as deep of a team sport as football is you can't start the who's-better argument by talking about Super Bowl appearances. And those 4 years, Buffalo was stacked.

Would have been nice for Donvan McNabb to have been the 2nd-ever 4-straight-Super-Bowls-lost QB. It's ok, though, that he only managed 1 Super Bowl trip out of 4 straight conference championship games. That makes the Eagles, as some sportscaster I forgot pointed out, the "JV Buffalo Bills."

I doubt the veracity of that story. Haley came to the Cowboys in 92. Aikman had been the starting QB for 3 years and had just been to his Pro Bowl. Franchise quarterbacks generally don't get hazed

Seriously?  It's the SUPERBOWL.  It's SUPPOSED to be difficult.

Even in the REGULAR season during that time, that's not even close to the longest kicks.

1994
54 Chip Lohmiller, Washington Redskins vs. Philadelphia Eagles (Oct. 3)
54 Jason Elam, Denver Broncos at San Diego Chargers (Oct. 23)
54 Doug Pelfrey, Cincinnati Bengals vs. Philadelphia Eagles (Dec. 24)
1993
59 Steve Christie, Buffalo Bills vs. Miami Dolphins (Sept. 26)
1992
54 Al Del Greco, Houston Oilers vs. Kansas City Chiefs (Sept. 20)
54 Norm Johnson, Atlanta Falcons vs. New York Jets (Sept. 6)
54 Jeff Jaeger, Los Angeles Raiders vs New York Giants (Oct. 4)
54 Steve Christie, Buffalo Bills at Miami Dolphins (Nov. 16)
54 Norm Johnson, Atlanta Falcons vs. New England Patriots (Nov. 29)
1991
60 Morten Andersen, New Orleans Saints vs. Chiocago Bears (Oct. 27)

But, fine. I'll stop beating up on Norwood.

Okay, then...how about the 52-17 lay-down vs Dallas?

Or, the 30-13 choke in the second half in the Cowboy rematch?

Don't get me wrong.  I actually liked the Bills back then.  But Kelly never proved he could win the big games.

maybe it wsan't aikman, or maybe it wasn't a QB. either way, Haley strectched his donk across a table to haze somebody and i think they got into a fight about that.

Thats defininitely a likely chewing tobacco cancer. I only dipped for a few years and at a dentist visit they saw something off in my mouth, said that they would want to see it in a few weeks if it didnt improve. Needless to say I started really looking at WTF i was doing and stopped, it healed and i havent dipped since.

we're men, it normally takes something bad happening for us to wake the hell up.

Either way regardless... bills were my team when i was a kid. luck to ya mr. kelly.
