"Seattle is the hometown of Starbucks. Color it all green, noted the tree analysts. "

Why would they get tree analysts to debate the reasons behind the business decisions of Starbucks/Dunkin?

Weird but cool.

The orange of my area didn't seem orange enough.  I have 3 Duncans within 1.5 miles of my house and about 8 within 5 miles.

I am more or less coffee agnostic, but given a choice I'll take DD over Starbucks any day.

Just dont let them put in the sugar or cream themselves... oy

Since the coffee in both places sucks, the debate comes down to this: would you rather be served by a pretentious faux-hipster who ignores your order, or an indian who can't even understand your order in the first place.

Rapmaster2000: Bring back Mister Donut.

If only. International Multifoods bought Mister Donut and used it up as a cash cow, then sold what was left of it to Duncan and the stores all changed to Duncan or went away/independent.

Or go to Japan. Mister Donut is still big there.

As I mentioned in an earlier (TF?) thread, is Dunkin the only of the two that actually sell, in the immortal words of Denis Leary: "Coffee Flavored Coffee?"

Sucks that you guys have to deal with only Starbucks and/or DD and their incompetence.

Never had Dunkin until I moved to Cleveland. I was confused as to why they were everywhere. Then I tried it. So much better than Starbucks. So much.

I bought some of their coffee at the supermarket and made it at home. Horrible-est shiat I ever tasted.

I've long since given up on buying coffee at places.  One, I only like coffee-flavored-coffee.  Two, the only places that sell that use the cheapest shiat imaginable.  Three, I drink it black and am sick of getting half-filled cups at cafes.

I'm an old fart,I remember when dunks was a purple sign and mostly exclusive Boston fixture.

The people at dunks were there for the doughnuts as much as the coffee. All there was..hot coffee and delicious missles of doom.

They're everywhere on the east coast now. I've visited good and bad ones. Nothing like the original DD though. Doughnuts are smaller and less fresh. Coffee is a bit different too. Not bad though.

If you get bitter DD coffee, its because the franchise you visited does a crappy job of cleaning their equipment to remove accumulations of bitter flavors, or reuses coffee or filters. Find a better Dunks. Or tell them to clean their stuff more often.

As for competition, lower/middle class working guys tend to view Starbucks as effete. Out on the east coast I can't imagine a truck of sunburned construction workers or sweaty football players piling into Starbucks for coffee and ten doughnuts each.

DO NOT WANT Poster Girl: I'm an old fart,I remember when dunks was a purple sign and mostly exclusive Boston fixture.

Then you probably also remember Dunkin' Donuts having circular counters to sit at while you drank and ate, rather than just being a rack of "bagels" and wall of Bunn-O-Matics crammed lengthwise into a narrow strip mall storefront.

And of course you remember the titular "Dunkin' Donut", circular but with a bonus nub for soaking up coffee into.

As with Krispy Kreme, and Starbucks, and The Coffee Bean, aggressive territorial expansion forced Dunkin'Donuts to abandon a lot of what made it special to begin with.
