FTFA: CNN has never made ideologically impassioned shows the basis of its appeal. Instead, it has thrived when its potent brand identity, the channel for breaking news, has come into play.

I have to say, being one of the five people that still watch MSBNC, I was actually really turned off by their coverage of the Moore, OK tornados.  The tornado happened during the day, and by the evening there was really nothing to say that hadn't been said five times or more over the six afternoon hours.  I expected the prime time anchors to use Moore as their lead story and then go on to other political news from the day . . . but they didn't.  Instead they all covered the tornado straight through, as though nothing else happened that day at all.

I'm a politics junkie, and a news junkie, and you know what, if I'm watching Rachel Maddow, I probably already know exactly how many schools got hit, how many people are listed as injured, missing or verified dead.  I've already seen the ten minutes of the footage reel that they've managed to stitch together.  Watching MSBNC for that stuff is pointless.  I get that information from the internet (or on rare occasions from CNN).  If I've turned to MSNBC, I'm probably looking for their political coverage, some analysis, something other than pictures of death.

.

The problem is this: they are still a news organization. Why does a farking political channel do not have their own White House correspondents? They own the battle if they would have a progressive news crew that would be as factual as possible.

Darth_Lukecash: The problem is this: they are still a news organization.

The point is that they are not a news organization, but are forced to try to act like one when there is breaking news, and are ill-suited for that purpose.

Why does a farking political channel do not have their own White House correspondents? They own the battle if they would have a progressive news crew that would be as factual as possible.

I completely agree.

How dare MSNBC be honest about their goals and objectives as a cable channel.

They should come up with a new slogan like "Unbiased and Equitable."

All the liberals I know get their news from other sources. Maybe we tune into MSNBC occasionally for specific personalities we enjoy, but for straight news there are much more informative sources out there.

2013-06-03 11:53:06 AM
Whenever the news of the day is a crime and/or disaster of the Obama administration, the only angle MSNBC can take (and still be true to its pro-Democrat "brand") is to say THERE IS NO NEWS HERE.  Their only viable pro-Democrat line is distraction.

The absence of a story is all they've got, but it's not the kind of programming that draws viewers. MSNBC can only hide/bury these stories for so long before viewers go elsewhere.

Sometimes, although I swore them off a few years ago (although sometimes they're unavoidable). I personally go to NPR, and many in my social circle do as well. Most of the libby libs I know can't stand cable news, or American politics for that matter so they also get a lot of news from the BBC and other international news outlets.

"We're not the place for that," said Phil Griffin, the channel's president, in reference to covering breaking events as CNN does. "Our brand is not that."

he said that they're not the place for breaking news. way to breitbart the headline, submitter.

want Real News?  go online.  nobody owns the Internet so no one can control/edit what is 'news' and  what is not.  weird, ain't it?

the problem with the "Free and Independant Press" in America is that it is not Free and not Independant.  Thomas Jefferson warned that no Nation can have a Democratic Republic without same.

which expains alot of strange things that happen in American politics these last 20 or 30 years...

the "news" in America is owned/edited/redacted by our Corporate Friends who own the News Networks.  and of course, they have an agenda to push and they have folks they want elected into office. they have Capital to protect and Legislators to put into office who will do their bidding.

the Internet?    it rubs them Raw.  they can't stand not having control of it.

Yep.  Which is amusing whenever I see these types of headlines, or comments on Fark, from someone expecting the "Fark Libs" to jump to a passionate defense of CNN or MSNBC.  It never happens, but bless their teabagging hearts, they keep trying.

It's just another variant of BSAB. It's impossible to deny that FOX is dishonest and people still fervently defend it. Instead of knocking FOX conservatives pretend that MSNBC is just like FOX. It has to be exactly as dishonest and liberals have to be exactly as zealous about it to be fair. Otherwise they may have to evaluate things in a reasonable way and then everything falls apart.

My fantasy is to have Rachael peg me with a red white and blue strap on, on a massive king size circular bed adorned with sheets emblazoned with American flags and eagles, with Glenn Beck in gimp suit tied up in the corner forced to watch while the star bangle banner plays in the background and the entire event is narrated by Chris Matthews.

MSNBC should hire Joey Greco as an anchor or reporter. He's got that faux-concerned look and down pat. And nobody asks a leading question they already know the answer to better the JG. He is a little old for The Cycle, but his head is in right place.

Bonus: he is really good with those newfangled mini video cameras.

Is this the same stuff that the Bush administration invented and first implemented? Or are we talking about a different set of drone strikes, F&F program and warrantless search programs that are completely horrid but cannot trace their roots to the last Republican administration?

Welcome to the world we live in.
