Every time I see one of these shots I wonder how many times it's happened when someone wasn't stupid enough to record and post it online.

Many times.

Though if we stopped to think of what might have happened or be happening to our food, we might not want to eat anything.  I've worked in a kitchen, I've seen what happens.  I never did anything myself (no, really).

Despite that people are still going to eat out, lick tacos.

My stepdaughter has been nothing but a waitress for the last 5 years. She has turned down better job opportunities because she thinks that things like bookkeeping or payroll aren't "real jobs" or "aren't for real people". I've listened to her tell stories of what kitchen staff routinely do.

Everybody who works restaurant must just be nothing but white trash or other racial equivalent, my stepdaughter included.

Don't like it? Don't demand large quantities of food at rock bottom prices. While it's hardly a guarantee, you're probably a lot less likely to get tuberculosis tacos from a place where the dropout handling your food can't replace his $8 an hour job in 24 hours. Aside from the tiny possibility of criminal charges, there aren't exactly any serious repercussions to this type of behavior when you don't really have anything worth losing to begin with.

I always got kind of a kick out of people who biatched at me about the service level I provided when I worked retail. Biatch, I make $4 an hour. If you want someone to wait on you hand and foot go hit Rodeo Drive, not Sears. At this salary I'll check you out once you pick your shiat and that's it.

I'll still eat Taco Bell, you'll take my Crunchwrap Supreme when you pry it from my cold, dead, sauce-covered fingers.

/Once a week, and only once a week, every week.
//for twenty minutes of glorious, chewy crunchy cheesy grilled gluttony.
///God have mercy if you short me on sauce packets, because I will have NONE. NONE.

Everyone has a friend who has worked at a restaurant and always trots out the story about the person who sent their food back so many times the chef flipped out and did all kinds of crazy things to it and the customer claimed it was the best piece of meat ever. This guy is showing initiative and doing something about that urban legend. We should praise him for showing initiative, but instead we have to urban legend shame him.

I worked at a couple of restaurants. Not fancy places, just basic family diner joints. None of us on the staff did anything remotely like this. In fact, we were extremely conscientious about food cleanliness.  That was 20-some years ago, though... People have changed since then.

The Taco Bell here also has a Pizza Hut in it.

Last week I had them make me a supreme burrito but with pepperoni and pizza sauce instead.

farking amazing.

I've worked in a kitchen at a fast food restaurant and I never saw any sort of deliberate tampering done with food. Even non-deliberate food contamination only happened once in my knowledge during the 4 years that I was there.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen (the picture proves that it does) but I think that the 'Tip well or you get piss in your soup' crowd is exaggerating quite a bit too.

No, it's not. Sadly.

It's what lazy people who ignore every opportunity that comes along tell themselves to try and feel like it's not their own fault they're going nowhere in life. I see it on Facebook all the time from friends from school who did nothing with their lives. They're not losers who squandered every educational and business opportunity they ever had to go to parties or buy some slick new bit for their car and then got stuck working at a Rite Aid warehouse slinging boxes for twelve bucks an hour well into their 30s, they're people with "real jobs".

In their minds, professionals are just kiss-asses and over-educated eggheads who couldn't hack it at a construction site or on a DOT road team or other "real job".

You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know... morons.

I'm an engineer so I'm really getting a kick.....

No really this is the story of my professional career. It's Hilarious to behold some days.

It really messes with the laborer's heads when they see mutual respect between engineers and mechanics. Somehow mechanics are exempt from the general disdain that they feel towards other educated people.

I worked in a trendy wine and sandwich place when I was in high school.  No one did shiat like this that I was aware of.

The closest was some lesbian who kissed another lesbian's ass.  I think it was all for my benefit.  They "argued" over who would have to wash the baking sheets that day.  One said, "If you think I'm doing it you can kiss my ass."  The other one said, "Fine, but it doesn't count if you have your pants on."  So the first one pulled her pants down, the other one crouched down and kissed her panty-clad ass.

2013-06-03 10:36:08 AM
Never eat at a restaurant with young workers. They don't need the job and therefore, don't give a shiat.

GibbyTheMole: This also makes me wonder... Wouldn't security cams in the kitchens prevent this kinda thing?

I was just about to type out how somebody needs to patent a fast food kitchen cam that shows our food being prepared on monitors at the front of the store. But then, I thought about Big Brother and whether I would like cameras sitting over my shoulder while I shuffle these papers and I stopped.

" but the fact that a Bell employee would think to take this photo and share it online - even among his friends - is enough to do damage to a company's reputation.  "

Do you think he cares about the companies reputation?  I only care about a company as much as it cares about me. Just the same as my country.

I've known several engineers who spend their weekends building street rods or racing sports cars. They do their own wrench-bending, so the mutual respect is no surprise to me.

I've known lots of other engineers who have other types of labor-intensive interests. My SO is both a kick-ass software engineer and the owner of a 10-acre horse farm. She can do manual labor, and so can I.

In other words, engineers do those so-called "real jobs"--on the weekends, for the fun of it.

Yeah, I think those sorts of places it would be unexpected to see anything along these lines, and I doubt it is any different now in such places as it was when you were there. It is mostly the fast food places with their young disposable employees and high staff turnover that you might sometimes get this sort of thing.
