(Sun Sentinel)   Clearly, the most rational way to get back at your three coworkers for laughing at a practical joke they played on you is to shoot and kill all three of them in cold blood outside a bar   (sun-sentinel.com) divider line 171

OK, that's a little farked up.  But these days, why would you punk a coworker about anything?  He might shoot you.

2013-06-03 01:03:18 AM
Lobban said one of the man had recently "punked" him and videotaped it and showed the video to the other two men, police said. The three men laughed and teased him about the video, police said.

Well I guess he'll have something to laugh about in prison for the rest of his life.

2013-06-03 01:13:57 AM
Wait til they show that video as evidence in court...that'll go over well for the guy....wonder if the jury will laugh.

the suspect is quoted as saying "I ruined my life over something that doesn't matter."

If he didn't have a gun, I'm sure he would've just strangled them all with his shoelaces or something.

That guy doesn't look like the sort of fellow you would want to play practical jokes on.

Better details

Lobban told investigators that he only intended to shoot Josue "Sway" Santiago, 25, of Ocala, the report said. The other victims - Benjamin Larz Howard, 23, of Belleview, and Jerry Lamar Bynes Jr., 20, of Ocala - he shot by accident, Lobban reportedly told police.

Lobban was upset that he had been "punked" in a videotaped incident that occurred within the past couple of weeks, OPD spokeswoman Sgt. Angy Scroble said.

Lobban had gone to a local shooting range with one of the victims, likely Santiago, said Scroble. At some point during that visit Lobban tried to fire a gun and it misfired, she said.

The incident was taped, and the video was shared among all of the victims, all of whom worked with Lobban as bouncers at the Ocala Entertainment Complex.

They laughed at Lobban and teased him about it, police said, which seemed to anger him.

"He just kept harping on that" during his interview with detectives, Scroble said of Lobban. "It really bothered him."

Men have been killing each other since they first walked the Earth.  Finding a tool has never been a problem, there are many to choose from.  The real issue is the fact that he decided to attack another man over the video.  Once that thought was in his head, the only thing that would stop it is for somebody to recognize the anger and intervene by talking him out of it.  The tool he used wasn't going to change the outcome a bit.  Knives, baseball bats, tire irons, etc. all work pretty well against unarmed men.

Yes, but when it's harder to kill people, you're less likely to do it over meaningless shiat. See, e.g., 0bummer's drone strike on a Chicago-area McDonald's for serving him food that didn't live up to the pictures on the menu: it's plump, juicy, three inches thick. Look at this sorry, miserable, squashed thing. Can anybody tell me what's wrong with this picture?

no way. he was obviously an intelligent person who would have acted in a reasonable manner had that gun not jumped up into his hand and taking over his mind.

Anyone who ever put the absolute sanctity a useless right allegedly granted to them in a document written by politicians who never lived to see the miracle of electric lighting above the lives of the thousands per year who wouldn't need to die if any idiot with a valid photo ID couldn't buy a room full of guns and ammunition in this country.

The guy who's response to a story about a another guy who shot three people was, "Well, he could have killed someone with a baseball bat and we could just talk him out of it," as a preemptive argument against gun control. That's the guy.

You want to construe "Talk him out of it" and "If he  really wanted to, he could go on a killing spree with a pocket knife" as being hopelessly naive, okay. The rest of us are going to imagine that the commenter in question has  no interest in reducing murder rates, and  every interest in preserving firearm ownership.

I don't believe in vengeance but I was the youngest kid in my family, got teased nonstop and I farking hate it.
Any problem is worse with co-workers because you can't avoid them without going broke.
And seriously, who farks around at a shooting range with a huge guy who's paid to intimidate people?

I would say that this guy killed three people because he felt he was "punked" is what the the story is about. and I think it's pretty likely that if he's willing to kill multiple people just because he was laughed at, he's probably willing to kill through other means.

And I'd say that if he hadn't had a gun, maybe he'd have killed one of them. Or none of them, because it's just a whole lot more work.

Say, do you remember that guy Larry next door
Well, he always was the neighborhood clown
Like the time he took my pants off and he took those color pictures
And posted copies all over town
Or the time that he dumped toxic waste on my lawn
Or those wacky prank phone calls from midnight 'till dawn
What a crazy kid Larry was, always foolin' around

Boy, what a joker
What a funny, funny guy
I'll never forget about Larry
No matter how I try

Say, do you remember when I lost all my hair
'Cause Lar' gave me that Nair shampoo
And hey, how 'bout the day he put Ben Gay inside my jockstrap
And filled my toothpaste tube with glue
All those wedgies he gave, all those shoestrings he tied
All those brownies he made with the Ex-lax inside
Oh Lar', I swear, it was a laugh a minute with you

Boy, what a joker
What a funny, funny guy
I'll never forget about Larry
No matter how I try

You know I couldn't help but laugh
Even though he treated me like slime
Remember when he cut my car in half?
Well, he really got me good that time!

Say, do you remember when I broke in Larry's house
Late at night and tied his mouth with a rag
Then I dragged him by his ankles to the middle of the forest
And stuffed him in a big plastic bag
If the cops ever find him, who knows what they'd say
But I'm sure if ol' Lar' were still with us today
He would have to agree with me it was a pretty good gag

Oh boy, what a joker
What a funny, funny guy
I'll never forget about Larry
No matter how I try
Oh boy, what a joker

That's just provably false, though. He killed three fellow bouncers, presumably large, fit men used to fighting people. How would he plausibly do that with a concealable weapon other than a gun? Is he gonna win a 3 on 1 fight with just a knife or something?

Cost-benefit analysis. I can't believe you're having this much trouble following along.

The satisfaction he expects to get from killing those people has to be outweighed by the effort he's going to put into it, otherwise he won't do it. If the effort is reduced, the amount of satisfaction can also reduce. Meaning: you can kill over pettier and pettier shiat if killing is made easier for you. If you have to plot and plan and poison someone, that's quite a bit of effort to think up and then execute. If you can walk up to them outside a bar with a gun in your hand, that's quite a lot less.

2013-06-03 05:54:29 AM
Well, to be fair though, there was a recent spat of teen and pre-teen girls committing suicide due to social media bullying, and people were venting how tragic the they took their lives and how they wished harm on the bullies.....well HERE YOU GO.

If you can't leave your childish shiat behind in grade school, you need a solid wake-up call.

ib_thinkin: Well, he could have killed someone with a baseball bat

He coulda killed all three of 'em with a baseball bat if he'd been so inclined. The trick, you see, is not to beat the first guy to death and then move on to the others. No, you take them from behind and you stun all three of them first with quick blows to the head and/or kneecaps. Most people will turn around to see what's happened when their buddy suddenly falls over on the sidewalk, making them easy targets. Then you can beat all three to death and not have to worry about them running away.

/not advocating multiple homicide, just really hate people who think practical jokes are funny

I'm not comparing his motivation to that of someone who wants ribs. That's not how analogies work. I'm using an alternate setting to illustrate a common principle: that the harder it is to do something, the more motivated you have to be in order to do it.

log_jammin: *blink*

Yes, you have made quite clear that you just can't fathom that  people don't do anything unless they think it's worth it to do, one way or another. We all get it: you don't have an argument, and so must continue the facade of astonishment.
