(Deadspin)   It's a good thing no one cares about MLS. Otherwise, this blatant example of match fixing would be a really big deal   (deadspin.com) divider line 56

The easy money is in fixing matches in minor leagues and international friendlies.

2013-06-02 04:17:16 PM
Right. We're going to bet a lot of money on the worst team in the league. We're betting on them to lose. We need a lock.

I do care a great deal about Multiple Listing Services. What piece of property was being matched and who were the two parties?

wow. someone scored. in soccer.  ive seen everything now.

As bad as that was, the German goalie might be on the take, too.

2013-06-02 04:27:49 PM
The German own goal today was full of lulz as well

2013-06-02 04:30:31 PM
And yes, any savvy gambler knows you can't fix the biggest games (anymore), you have to fix the low level junk, where nobody makes a lot of money, and nobody is paying attention. And also don't bet for Liverpool scoring a lot of goals against a fixed goalie. Liverpool are just that inept.

What's that old saw again?  Never assume malice when simple incompetence will do?

Seems that someone just plain sucks.

Wow.  MLS  really does aspire to be just like futbol everywhere else.

Just looked like a classic case of indecision gone wrong.  The goalie was about to step up and clear the ball downfield, saw a guy charging at him at the last second and froze as he couldn't decide whether to go ahead and kick or pick it up.

De Luna's still a lucky bastard because he has only the second dumbest own goal in the past 24 hours.

Cannot be repeated to often.
Chivas.
Please come to MLS and show off Mexican superiority.
Chvas.

2013-06-02 06:07:57 PM
The sad thing is, Chivas had some decent players, but got rid of them all trying to be be all Latinos only. Which is dumb. Put your best squad out, don't try to pander to the masses. The LA Hispanic community was watching the other Chivas anyway.

Uh, Subby...that's partly WHY we don't give a fark about soccer.  3 hours of people running around to finish in a 0-0 tie, or the game is rigged.  Whoopty-farkin-do.

Don't forget the additional 20 minutes they tack on at the end of regulation because why not?

2013-06-02 06:30:08 PM
There's an MLS team called Chivas?  Huh. That's a weird name.

Makes me think of chives.  Mmm, baked potato with sour cream and chives.  And bacon.

What were we talking about again?

2.5/10, unoriginal technique, horrible dismount, crash landing.

Odd choice by the defender when a chest trap would seemingly be the better option, but then you don't become the worst team in the league by making good decisions.

EVERY soccer game is fixed or else they'd all be scoreless snoozefests instead of 1-0 snoozefests.

The most exciting thing I've seen from the Sounders all season...not saying much.

I've turned in my soccer card this year.  In an attempt to give the sport a chance I started watching soccer in '06 from the world cup, through some EPL and Champions League play, another world cup, through the start of Sounders FC in the MLS, have been to some of their games, and watch it if it's on tv and I'm not doing anything.

I now know that I won't ever get the attraction to this game.  I think soccer is a terrible spectator sport.  I gave it a fair shake and confirmed that I do indeed hate soccer.

I guess I'm that guy in your thread.  Sorry, carry on.

Galaxy are missing their top goal scorer and their #1 defender, and they really haven't gotten over Mike Magee leaving. Not terribly shocked at the scoreline.

Pretty much this. And yeah, nobody really cares about the MLS. After all, when Robbie Rogers came out as gay a year before Jason Collins, nobody cared.

The three hour comment takes it up a notch to 3/10 for me.  Troll got it confused with Nascar, American Football, and Monopoly in length of time it takes to play.

Its a bad spectator sport if you actually go into the arena with the intention of focusing on the game. However, if you like waving flags, singing songs with other people, playing musical instruments, and yelling ethnic slurs at the team from the other country, soccer is great.

Much like American football, the game is secondary to the environment around it.

I love how we've got a million kids playing youth soccer in the US, but by age twelve 90% of them have said f*ck this game and moved on to other sports. Soccer has little staying power with teenagers. It's never going to go anywhere in this country.

Fixing soccer matches is currently the largest scandal in international sports.  There are kingpins making billions off of it right now.  There's a very real threat of it showing up in the U.S, and spreading to other lucrative sports.
