This is the dumbest article I've ever read. Everyone involved, from Jezebel to Buzzfeed to the FB group seeking racism in this cartoon is an idiot.

I don't know.

Even so, what's racist about it? So Doug likes tan white girls, that doesn't mean he didn't like girls of other races. The writer is an idiot, and for farks sake it was a kids show.

Preferred Ren and Stimpy, Rocco's Modern Life, or Invader Zim myself. Could never really get into Doug though I watched it when nothing else was on. Never seen a full episode of the grown up version, though it seemed like they changed voice actors somewhere along the line. I can't really say I thought any of it was racist, just dull with an occasional Skeeter freak out.

Looks like a Mexican chick with bleached hair.  But I have to admit I've never seen a single episode of the show.

I always assumed Patti was some sort of mixed race because her last name represented some sort of mixed concoction metaphor.  A little bit of this and that and you get Mayonnaise.

As a child I hated all of those shows except Ren and Stimpy. I had good taste in movies and tv even as a young flowerpot and yes, i'm proud.

I can't think of a single tv show or movie where there's an interracial couple or even love interest where the interracial part hasn't been plot point or punchline.  Can anyone think of one where there's an interracial couple that just exists without it being referenced in some way?  So maybe Doug is racist.  But if he is, so is everyone else.

I was going to add Duckman to your list of good ones, but upon further review it wasn't on Nick. Still, I think it wasn't just one of the best animated series, it was one of the best series of any kind on television.

The question of Doug's race is something fans have been debating for a while. In 2009, blogger Wolfie G. Nards wrote: "Every supporting character around Doug is some wacky shade except, of course, for Doug Funnie, who is a regular white kid. The main character is white in world full of colorful yet ancillary characters. What does that tell our children?. All other skin tones must remain in the background."

Go kill yourself, blogger Wolfie G. Nards.

There's a reason why the government cracked down on Saturday morning cartoons after the 90s.  They figured they couldn't handle another decade of things like Muppet Babies ruining children's lives.

I thought it was because after about the mid-90's there wasn't a market for Saturday morning cartoons, what with Nickelodeon, Boomerang, Cartoon Network, Disney Channel and their related spawn showing cartoons 24/7/365 having eaten up the demand.

Hey hey there now! Don't you dare go insinuating that our highly enlightened and completely unprejudiced entertainment industry is in any possible way racist or sexist. They only create shows and movies that appear to be racist and sexist because that's what their audience wants. And yes, viewers often claim it really isn't what they want, but who believes anything said by a bunch of filthy bigots?
