And H is the 8th letter of the alphabet, so 88 = HH, a code for Heil Hitler.

Coincidence?  I think not!

2013-06-01 10:44:03 AM
It's probably closer to 8,800.

Wow - the GOP is grasping here.  You now, guys, after enough of this crap, you just stat to look ridiculous.  You passed that point years ago.  Just... for crap's sake stop wasting our money and time, and legislate.  That's your farking job.

2013-06-01 10:53:47 AM
Being CNN, it's more likely 8 or 888, but probably not 88.

Knowing CNN, they probably were actually looking at Department of the Interior information.

Should have been more. "Taxed Enough Already" groups deserve scrutiny.

The fact that they collected documents from 88 people doesn't mean that there were 88 people involved in shenanigans.  In an investigation like this, you try to cast as wide a net as possible - so, they'd likely collect and review documents from anyone who was involved in determining how nonprofit applications were reviewed, anyone who reviewed nonprofit applications during the relevant period, etc.

Incredible.  Taxbongo is going to be the first president to be impeached eighty-eight times.  How does that even happen?  How do you get impeached eighty-eight times?  It is incredible that they will have to hold eighty-eight impeachment hearings.  I hope they make a Taxbongo impeachment trading card set where you can collect all eighty-eight cards.  Eighty-eight.

Because there were 88 or them?

Greaaaaat.  We're going to hear lots of silly right-wing people complain because right-wing political organizations got tax breaks they shouldn't have.

Why should political organizations have a tax status that is forbidden for political organizations?

hell they wanted universities to turn over all the faculty's emails to see if they had been corresponding with labor unions or pro-labor organizations.

Meh.  Doesn't matter...

Obama could sodomize baby Jesus while dining on the flesh of puppies during the State of the Union address and a significant number of Democrats would still protect and defend him and his party because it would still been seen as better in their eyes than a Republican president.

not just hippy groups. NAACP, liberal churches and anti war cookie making grandmothers. and not just the IRS but the FBI too.

Yes, missing deadlines is so rare it is scandalous.

"The same source said the IRS argues it missed its deadline because of the scope of documents it is collecting."

Breitbart: "IRS ignores senate deadline!!!"
Reality: "The IRS was not able to collect all the document requested by the deadline, but is still collecting documents to be submitted to the senate."

I'll say it again. That the IRS unfairly targeted conservative groups is not in question now. You can quit pretending otherwise.

The question now is to what extent and who knew about it.

You have about as much evidence of Obama being involved in this IRS thing as him sodomizing baby Jesus while dining on the flesh of puppies during the state of the union address, so we might as well treat both accusations with the same amount of disdain.

The only scandal is the fact that teabagger groups are dodging taxes and hiding the political donors.

Perhaps accusations of wrongdoing may be given broader consideration were a subset of the population not crying "Potato!" every time the President is observed under an umbrella held by a Marine, having a word misspoken at a swearing-in ceremony or presenting an authentic Hawaiian birth certificat to the public.

What conservative groups did they target? The Tea Party is a broad based, grass roots organization solely founded to help other human beings in their time of need protest anything government does and having to pay taxes. You do remember how we were all told for years and years that they were definitely not conservative groups

/so for the part i had to strike through
//the exemption they wanted is for those types of groups

It's the first step in exposing the Right Wing Noise Machine as an entity that exists largely to separate the rubes from their hard earned dollars.

I intend to enjoy it. Sure, Obama and the IRS are going to take a hit, but the potential damage to the GOP and ancillary entities like 'think' tanks and media conglomerates could be ruinous.

However, with no documents in hand, there is no way to know how many of the employees being asked to preserve documents were truly involved in the activity in question.

The thing that kills me is that this just reinforces the perception that government is made up of homogenous automatons with only one political goal in mind rather than what it really is: a fairly representative sample of the American public.

One is an accusation.... the other is an analogy. One of these things is a real.thing that is really happening and the other is a deliberately nonsensical example of a thing that is not going to happen. And yet within minutes you prove the post was correct by drawing a false equalivance. This is a special kind of stupid and a perfect example of why I hope Obama serves his full term. Americans deserve the pleasure of watching liberals debase themselves defending him.
