1. Refuse to click link whose content is admittedly appealing, because patronizing slideshows sends the wrong message.

I assume it's one per state?  If so, is the one for Ohio "Stay the hell away from Ohio"?

2013-05-31 01:46:18 PM
Got through about 5 without seeing one I cared about one way or another.

Stopped.

Did subby propose this link because he or she clicked all the way through this and thought: "I'll share this great list with all my buddies on fark"? If so, subby has terrible taste in websites.

Or did subby propose this link because he or she took a look at the topline and thought: "Fark greens these all the time, I'll see if I can get a greenie for myself"? If so, subby is an ass.

And yet green it goes. Kudos to all involved.

Phelyx: How does one tailgate at Wrigley if there is no parking?

Came here to say that. List is fail.

2013-05-31 01:47:10 PM
Also some of these are stupid like 'how to do the most touristy, expensive part of this location'

I think I've done 11, but only because I didn't do things like eat smores in yellowstone, ride the (way overpriced??) gondolas in vegas, ride a carriage (also overpriced and currently a sensitive topic) in central park, plus didn't do skywalk at the grand canyon because everyone knows that is the shiatty side and skywalk is for lazy people who don't actually want to walk around the canyon or do any hiking.

2013-05-31 01:47:38 PM

Pants full of macaroni!!: I assume it's one per state?  If so, is the one for Ohio "Stay the hell away from Ohio"?

No, New Orleans was on there twice, once for Mardi Gras and flashing for beads and also for the French Quarter Festival in April.

Also, the current Grand Ole Opry isn't the stage that most people think it is. Ryman is worth a visit if you can find a good show, but the fact that this isn't mentioned shows how little the author really knows.

Would be willing to bet a collection of farker's could pick apart almost every item on this list.

2013-05-31 01:54:37 PM
Is this another "50 really expensive things you should do to boost the local ecomomy of these tourist towns" list or are there actual life changing, mind blowing, breath taking things?

2013-05-31 01:55:30 PM
Some of those I could care less about. There are still a few I want to visit, and a 2/3 of the list I've already done. I can die with a sense of seeing a lot of stuff I guess.

Solid State Vittles: Phelyx: How does one tailgate at Wrigley if there is no parking?

Just provided proof that the author hasn't done many (most? all?) of the things on the list.

#9 was just wrong on many levels. If you want to experience a proper tailgate, you need to go a little north and tailgate at Miller Park, Lambeau Field, or Camp Randall.

2013-05-31 02:01:42 PM
I've done 14 of those things, although some of them (seeing the northern lights, whale watching) aren't activities that are unique to the USA so I'm including those as "done" even though i wasn't in the USA when I did them.

Hey, I've done two of those!  Will do Camp Randall one of these years since one of my good friends lives less than a mile away.

I just want to go skydiving once and maybe see the ocean. My bucket list is tiny and pathetic.

2013-05-31 02:10:24 PM
Checked the list I have done 24 of these things with the caveats that I did not eat Smores but I have been to Yellowstone, I have driven most of route 66 at various times it's nothing special, I have made wine and I have been to Napa but I did not make wine in Napa.

My completed list:

33. Shake Hands with The President.....technically, I did it before he was elected.
39. Go Oh La La in The French Quarter, New Orleans
41. Have The Time of Your Life at Walt Disney World
50. Tour The National Mall, Washington DC

2013-05-31 02:14:50 PM
Cute that they have the X Train on it.  I guess no one is allowed to die before 2014.

2013-05-31 02:17:01 PM
Ok, I've done very few of those, and most of the stuff on the list I have no interest in doing.

/full disclosure: never been to Cedar Point, nor indeed ridden a rollercoaster anywhere - if i did that now, i'd probably die of a heart attack

2013-05-31 02:17:55 PM
Kind of obligatory:
John Finnermore's fark you to people publishing "X things to do before Y" lists: 2 things to do

Or from himself with nice illustrations

2013-05-31 02:20:11 PM
well, let's see... i have already done all the things that interest me from the list.

mardi gras
myrtle's plantation
air boat in the everglades
hung out in the french quarter

I live walking distance to the french quarter.  mardi gras is the greatest holiday on earth.  but, i imagine mardi gras as a tourist who has absolutely no idea where to go might be less exciting.  myrtle's plantation was neat to visit, but only because it was on the way to where i was going... and the air boat thing is boring, despite the fact that i find an elegance in a nice swamp.  i just prefer louisiana swamps to florida swamps.

other than that, pretty lame list.

/ i think my list of accomplishments sounds like i haven't traveled too much.  not true, i'm just not prone to seeing sites while vacationing.  i more wander around and follow the advice of strangers.  not been murdered or kidnapped once.  yet.  well, almost once, but i ran away after the guy tried to throw a vespa at me.  just another wild night with strangers.
