Congress checked, and it turns out everyone they know has a job already, so things must be going pretty good.

2013-05-30 09:37:19 AM
well, since republicans in congress are so good at gauging public opinion, i'm guessing they'll press on with their little witch hunts.

Corporate profits and the stock market are up, so the economy must be totally fixed, right?

27% seems to be a magic number in this country.

The middle class to start buying their products again. But they can't because they don't have jobs, so we're in a bit of a cycle.

More tax cuts. They're still being stifled. STIFLED, I say!

Also, it seems like a bummer for the GOP that Americans don't seem to be connecting Obama himself to any of these "scandals". Shame, they were so close!

Wasn't GWB's approval rating around that at the tail end of his presidency?

The majority of people believe that the economy is far more important than 98% of what the GOP has been doing since Obama got elected.

Yes, but they are having the dickens of a time avoiding taxes through off-shore banking and would like some help with that.

I have been told more than once that this whole benghazigate thing is the best thing ever as the scandal will keep Obama from winning a third term.

First we have to import people. Not swarthy illegal aliens. No. We need to import rich white men. And then we have to provide them with tax cuts. Huge tax cuts. If they don't have enough income for massive tax cuts, then we have to give these new white Americans giant piles of cash. Then give them tax cuts on those huge piles of cash.

Now let's talk about importing huge banks. White male banks so large they're too big to import...

Democrats should push that message to attack Republicans, we want to move the economy forward but these guys are just trying to make up scandals.

Doesn't matter. They're just hoping that 27% won't primary GOP candidates.

So far it seems like Issa is the name and face that is associated most with all of this.

So I say, I cannot believe that Darrell Issa murdered all of those people in Solyndra, Libya.

I wonder what the numbers would be if you asked: Which is more important, dealing with the economy and unemployment or enforcing the Endangered Species Act?

I'm sure another inquiry or two will change everyone's minds.....right?  Right??

Do you actually know anybody in government whose primary concern is endorsing the endangered species act?

The figure in the article was 22%, not 27%, that believe the scandals are of higher priority than the economy. That number is probably closer to the number of hard core right wing base.

FTA:  The poll found that 73 percent of American voters nationwide believe that dealing with the economy and unemployment should be a higher priority than the investigations. Fewer than a quarter of Americans - 22 percent - believe that the investigations should be the higher priority.

Not enough facts, where were the polls taken ? If in Detroit I can understand the results. If the polls were taken in a more affluent area the results would be entirely different.

We have death panels specifically for that purpose. Or so I'm told.

But seriously, that should probably be rephrased by switching positions for "damn" and "many."

What, in the US? China has orders of magnitude more people and they manage to have 5% expansion every year at least. You don't think we can do better with only 300 million people?

China "manages" to expand quickly because they're still much poorer than us, so they (essentially) sell their cheap labor to the US in the form of manufacturing.  Even with the wealth disparities in this country there aren't many other countries that are attracted by our cost of labor, especially after you factor in confounding factors like transport costs and cross-border legal issues.

That said I do think Granny_Panties is too pessimistic, and "too many people" is the wrong diagnosis.  If anything immigration increases aggregate demand and grows the economy.

china is an emerging economy (like brazil). the us is a mature economy. this is probably the new normal. well, unless there's a new boom in technology on the scale of the internet or something. but since we don't fund that sort of thing as well as our european and asian rivals, it's likely we won't be leading the charge.

76% say they want a special prosecutor for the IRS scandal.  76%, holy crap that's, we don't care what you have to say Mr. President, we are not amused.

It also says President Obama's approval rating is 45%

Why are people obsessed about Obama's dingdong? And isn't the appropriate term ding-a-ling?
Is it because they have never seen a black one and want to see if it is big as they suspect/hope/fear?

The two things are not unrelated:

Instead of focusing on the economy Obama is focusing on violating the first amendment rights of the press and thousands of americans across the country

I never realized tax exemption and leaking information were part of the First Amendment.
