Eh, the only thing worth watching on there anyway is 20-year-old Quantum Leap reruns.

As a sports journalist I occupy a pretty low-rung on the credibility totem pole.  However I take some pride in being able to say that I'm at least a rung above video game journalists.

I thought this had been scheduled to happen sooner than that. Isn't that why they shut down AOTS and all the other original programming?

And the final AOTS will feature every female correspondent, host, et al., as they are asked one last time if they'll just make out already.

I miss aots and xplay. There I said it. I still need to find a way to marry Allison haislip. Best cohost by far. Sessler was incredibly talented and Morgan vonn vebb was legit. Also KP grew on me a lot surprisingly.

Will they can the Japanese version of Ninja Warrior?  If so, then I will not watch out of protest.  It's the only thing worth watching on that channel.  I'll bet they'll show Cops 24/7... Kind of like now I guess.

I could give a shiat.  I know when I send my clips over to an editor for consideration they won't end up in the trash.  I might not get the gig, but I do know that I'll be considered as a legitimate journalist with the ability to branch out and write on other topics.

Other topics? Are you implying there are sports stories that aren't about Tim Tebow, the Yankees, Lebron James, or Danica Patrick?

Yet another genre channel perverted by TV executives who are not fans of a genre, and turn it into a channel they'd rather be heading up.

MTV started this process 20 years ago... SyFy is the most visible, but the destruction of TechTV was well foreseen and has followed a tortuous route.

Now.. can somebody resurrect TechTV once more as a pure tech genre station? Let's put Leo Laporte in charge, and never let it out of the hands of a techie.. ever.

2013-05-30 09:36:04 AM
I bet things will start off nicely, but they'll be showing 6-hour COPS marathons within a year.

2013-05-30 09:37:34 AM
And yet This Week in Tech and Tekzilla not only still live, but seem to be doing better than ever. Leo Laporte and Patrick Norton are probably somewhere in the Bay Area, enjoy a beer with a side order of schadenfreude right now.

/G4 may have struck down The Screen Savers, but they only made them more powerful than they could imagine.

Let's not forget Cartoon Network, which every few years has to fight back an executive attempt to turn it into a shiatty tween live-action channel because it's cheaper than animation.

The closest thing to a true TechTV successor is Revision 3.  TekZilla is basically as close to a current version of Screen Savers that we are ever going to get.

2013-05-30 09:38:02 AM
Oh... and here's a clue for the execs running G4 - your ratings stink because you got rid of all the programs people liked in favor of COPS marathons. People will NOT flock to "Esquire TV" - all you've done is alienate the remaining G4 viewers.

Yep.  Never written about any of those topics and I think that's largely to my credit.

But I gotta give props....it took Hunter to make sports journalism cool.  And had he not considered that as his core identity I wouldn't be where I am today.

The annoying thing was you could have the screen savers and aots, but they opted not to even try. And the douches axed Martin Sargent right off the bat

I'd like to watch a show that makes elderly women or young girls play a very scary video game.

The teasers for the cooking and travel shows do look somewhat interesting, at least.

I used to watch AOTS and Xplay with a good buddy of mine while drinking heavily in the afternoon. I would tune into them strictly for the nostalgia factor from those great years. I like COPS when I'm loaded. Sorry, drunk rednecks getting chased and beatdown is hilarious when you're loaded. They'll show a decent movie once in a while, then show it so much you get sick of it (Predator, Mad Max lately).

Esquire? Who's going to watch that? While the Joel McHale series could be interesting, it seems like they just copied Bourdain, who did it better. farking executives. They destroyed Sci-Fi, and now G4.

Why even bother with cable? We dropped down to basic this month and there is literally nothing to watch. History is shiatty reality shows 24/7. The News channels blow dick. I can only take so much Bridezillas. COPS is fine, when drinking. Other than that there is nothing worth watching I cannot get on Netflix or Amazon Prime.

The only reason we kept the plus package for so long was that my kid liked PBS Sprout. I liked it too, actually. But it wasn't worth $40/ month.

Why not just make it the "Ninja Warrior Reruns" channel.  I'd watch.

2013-05-30 12:58:04 PM
God, I miss Tech TV.

Luckily, most of the folks I loved on that channel have current projects in podcasts or internet TV shows. I love everyone on Twit.tv, and a lot of shows on Revision3.

Hell, I found a guy the other day who has every episode of Unscrewed and XPlay posted on his website.

TechTV was ahead of its time, and perhaps could never have worked, anyway. The target audience was tech savvy enough to find its own entertainment on the web.

That was a rare case of a format change failing so unbelievably horribly they went back to the original way and pretended it never happened. When they had their anniversary bumps, CN Real was not acknowledged.

They were so desperate to outdo Nick and Disney and it blew up in their faces. Now the irony is that one of their top rated cartoons, Adventure Time, was actually originally pitched years ago to Nick.

I wasn't aware there was anything "geek" worth watching on G4 anyway, doesn't it pretty much play 24 hours of cops episodes now?

Anyone try to watch that new ABC gameshow with Kevin Perara hosting? I almost had an empathic moment from the sadness of his soul's painful death throws emanating through the TV screen.

For a "tech" based network, the G4 website sucked balls.

Food network is next, since they moved all the cooking shows to cooking channel and now either play all day reruns of guy fierri, cooking contests or save the dumbass shows.

Any comments about the channel and it's programs from the last 12 months are obviously flawed. since this was announced about a year ago to begin with.

Anything on the channel is already a rerun for what? 6 months now?

Hooray, we get another version of Spike TV, just more Esquiry? pass.
