Can anyone tell me if they're worth listening to?

I did like The Libertines, so I can't sit here and pretend Pete Doherty was ALWAYS a completely useless twat. They got big around the same time as The Strokes did so they were a nice, rougher and more raw-sounding counterweight.

Haven't cared about them in a long time though.

Still would go see a new darker more adult version of Home Alone, but I guess that was called Panic Room.

The Libertines were awesome.   The spin off bands?   No so much.

Anyway, Pete has made it to 34, so he seems to have been blessed with the Keefy/William S. Burroughs longevity junkie gene

I liked the Libertines because they wrote  3 minute dirty punk pop toe-tappers about getting drunk and farking.   It was a breath of fresh air coming out of the bloated self important 90s where the videos were either about teenage runaways with eating disorders who committed school shootings, or school shootings by teenage runaways with eating disorders.  They had a strong Clash vibe about them, which I guess shouldn't be surprising considering Mick Jones produced all their albums.

That's a good way to put it. I got tired of The Strokes quickly because while they also wrote toe-tappers primarily about getting drunk and farking, their songs were almost almost too well crafted and tight, to the point of boredom. The Libertines actually sounded out of tune and and as if everything just got recorded on its first take, which makes the songs about drinking and farking seem more realistic.

now that runaway on a one way track runaway ain't never comin' back song is sort of in my head. ugh.

Yeah, I think you hit on why the Strokes didn't have much longevity in the long run.  They were guys who were purposely dressing sloppy and drunk to try to smear the veneer on very, very, very rehearsed and polished songs.    People caught on quickly, except for the 14 year old girls with crushes and eventually they grew up.

Don't think so. Pete Doherty was with Kate Moss for eons and Culkin and Mila Kunis were together for something like 8 years. They're probably just being crackie hot messes.

This news is already several weeks old and more disgusting.

Wonder if any of the fans Mac has left still insist that it's "just Lyme disease"?  Just like Lyme disease is really the reason Fiona Apple had a tour meltdown?

I was going to ask if they're "living together" or just "being roommates."

Gay men can be roommates without having sex together. People can have same-sex sex without calling themselves gay. You don't have to be born gay to have gay sex or identify as gay later. Someone who's not gay might give a guy a pityfark. "Gay" is socially constructed. Etc. etc. etc.

But no, I don't want pics of them together, naked or not. Starving train wrecks ain't sexy.

Amanda Byrnes, OTOH....

People can change.

And no, gay people don't have to be born that way, nor does homosexuality have to be inborn for homosexuals to be worthy of human rights. Human rights apply to all people, not just people some people have to be talked into seeing as human. And civil marriage is a civil right, regardless of what sex(es) the people are.

Some traits and tendencies are doubtless inborn, but nobody born alive is merely a small version of what s/he'll be like when s/he grows up: "time and chance happen to [us] all." And everybody is born with the capacity and potential to have some kind of same-sex sex as well as "straight" sex. (Or no sex at all, imagine that.)

What makes somebody homosexual besides choosing to accept that label? WHO CARES? Why is it an issue? Why would anybody need "reasons" for other people's private behavior? What we should "research" and "advocate" instead is how to teach people to get used to the idea that other people are people too, whether they're like them in a certain way or not.

Essentialism is a copout. The only "identity" a person should need is "human being." E.g., 'I, who go on Fark as The One True TheDavid, have the right to have my partnerships socially noted as others are because I was born a human being (and still am).' Having courage: it's easy once you know how.
