Only young people are surprised to discover they are old.

The artist who made this doesn't understand Calvin and Hobbes.

Properly linkified for you, because yes, those are much much better, and this is exactly what I came to post. I wish "Hobbes & Bacon" were allowed to be a continuing thing, but even so, just the few that were made are such an excellent tribute to "Calvin & Hobbes". :)

I hope Bill Watterson invested his money wisely so we never have to see Hobbes shilling for Starkist, Calvin buying MetLife insurance from Lucy or Susie Derkins' mom pulling a train for a flagon of Prince Valiant's mead.

Seriously, this was at best fan fiction...

I generally dislike webcomics, but there have been so many better Calvin and Hobbes tributes than this. I didn't even think Calvin and Hobbes and Bacon was all that good, but it at least captured some of the same spirit...

I cant hear mention of that strip without thinking of the new wave group A Flock of Seagulls and fellow funny page feline, Bill the Cat.

They were the 80s for me and I wasn't interested in the least.

This is the best post-C&H I have seen.  The other posted comics are cute and all, but they are of a completely different nature.

This one captures the inherent nostalgia of aging far better.

All he'd have to do is set up a kickstarter for one more book, he could live off of the excess funds for decades.

One thing to understand about those strips is that the daughter's given name is Frances. "Bacon" is the affectionate nickname her parents gave her. Think about it.

"Hobbes & Bacon" is the only tribute I've seen that actually looked like Watterson's work.

Yes, it is. I wonder if that girl is supposed to be Bacon? That one, too, looks almost like it could be Watterson. Is it the same artist?

"Awesomeness: The Art of Someone Who is Too Lazy to Come Up with Original Ideas So He Tries to Cash in on the Work of Others and Pass It Off as Tribute"

As you can see in the article the title had to be shortened a bit.

I honestly cannot think of a worse way to honor the memory of Calvin and Hobbes by dissolving it into weepy adult bullshiat. Calvin would be furious.

I hate all the "calvin and hobbes after calvin and hobbes" fancomics that I've seen.
They're insulting and arrogant in that they use cherished characters and essentially spit on their memory by injecting their own influence into it. The comic ended the way Waterson (or whatever) wanted it to.
Adult Calvin only exists in our imagination. Deviantards should stick to Sonic and Kingdom Hearts crap.

I especially hate those manga-style ones. Jesus Christ what a travesty.

I dunno, I like to think that Waterson would be happy people were using their imaginations and being creative, even if the results were less than stellar. He always seemed like a pretty chill guy.

Was it the one with Tigger doing Christopher Robin while fist-bumping Hobbes who is doing Calvin?
I saw that one a year ago or so, it was pretty funny.

My gf's son is autistic, and one of his routines is always having a "guy" or two (stuffed animals, usually Knuckles or Luigi or Yoshi or Mario) to bring with him.

I don't think he'll grow out of it any time soon, but when he does I'll box them all away with care to save for his brother/sister when they come along.

This is the same guy that quit cartooning because he was sick of all those "Calvin Pees On Car Logo" stickers, right? He seemed to have a specific idea of how Calvin & Hobbes should be depicted and didn't like other people taking liberties with it.

I have no issue with fan art, but god damn that is pretty shiatty, when your 'painting' is less impressive than a daily cartoon panel you might want to practice a little more before trying to sell it.
