Even more, if you count everyone who yells "Jesus Christ!" as their car breaks through the guardrail and down the mountainside.

And the problem is? Quite frankly I just don't understand why they care? If you truly believe in jewish cosmic zombie, what's the point of being on this planet anyway.

Religious freedom is beset by "sectarianism, intolerance, terrorism and exclusionary laws," he said, while also pointing to exceptions like Bangladesh where he said rights are protected.

Too bad the US isn't also an exception.  But I guess sectarianism, intolerance, terrorism and exclusionary laws are OK if the Christians are in the majority.

Monsignor Silvano Maria Tomasi was quoted by Vatican radio on Tuesday as saying that the figures were "shocking" and "incredible".

Agreed

There are not enough faith-healing idiots to account for 100,000 deaths.

Mr. Pope must be counting all the children killed by monsters like Mother Teresa with their twisted view of the sanctity of suffering babies.

Don't forget the people who "pray the disease away" instead of going to a doctor.  I think he underestimated that number.

Your religion is a guide for how to live YOUR life, not how others should live theirs.

I'm assuming this includes the ones who try to pray away cancer instead of going to some sort of godless heathen doctor.

Exactly.  I thought the whole goal was to chill with JC in heaven after you die.

Not that you are really serious, but the journey is the important part.

Subby: why 'unlikely'?

If you think Christians aren't being killed for their faith in ME and in Indonesia then you aren't paying attention.

Being a reilgous bigot/ignorant of facts and reality/and looking for any and every chance to deny Christians their right to worship is no way to go through life son.

And I post this as an agnostic.

Next to the Bible, Breitbart is the best source of infallible religious instruction.

It's pretty obvious there are parts of the world where christians are persecuted and killed. Fundamental Islam treats non-muslims as subhuman, and has specific rules for dealing with them, though often ignored for more, erm, direct, measures by overly-zealous islamists.

Anybody who has a problem seeing this is an idiot.

That said, this amounts to more of the same... religious idiots abound and continue to hate each other.

Of course, we also see, based on this thread alone, that ugly bigotry exists outside of religion too. I can't say I'm surprised, but it still saddens me.

/Not religious myself, but not bigoted, either

Is that the number of women who die in childbirth (due to risk factors that would dictate an abortion) and people with STDs that would have been prevented by condoms?

I went looking for a photoshop of Grumpy Cat ("Good.") crossed with a lion but couldn't find one. How am I supposed to troll this thread if someone hasn't made one? Do it myself? Bah, and humbug.

Maybe by % of total, but I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume that there are more Christians than GLBT folks, so even if a smaller % of Christians are slaughtered, it ends up being a bigger number.

There are very few countries in which Christians are persecuted more heavily than atheists. To be sure, one of them is the most populous country on the planet...

This would be the same Bangladesh where atheists are being beaten to death, but that doesn't count in his eyes.

While a condom would have protected them.

2013-05-29 10:34:53 AM
I can believe it.  Unlike the US, there are many nations where Christianity IS a minority religion and its adherents 'can' suffer terribly if the nation doesn't adequately protect them.

China stands out as a major offender, as do many African nations and SE Asian nations.  Indeed, considering the population of many of these nations, 100k a year is almost to be expected.

Operating a hospital that does not use pain killers "on principle" even for children with terminal cancer...  fighting contraception and then referring to AIDS as "just retribution for improper sexual conduct" .. the list goes on.

Curious to me that no one in this thread seems to have noticed the bigger lie in the post: NO WHERE in the article is the pope quoted. The almost-certainly-bullshiat statistic about the 100k Xians dying* yearly is from a farking Monsignor; essentially it's like grabbing a scare quote from a Marine Colonel and attributing it to President Obama.

And apparently Subby has successfully trolled every previous commenter with this bait.

You honestly believe they're just making shiat up, don't you?  Google "egypt christian persecution"....They aren't responsible for the whole "100,000", but you're an idiot if you don't think it isn't happening around the world...

Yeah, I couldn't find anything on Google either.  The only link was to a speech Benedict gave years ago.

Is he counting Catholics dying of AIDS because they don't use condoms based on his predecessor's advice? I guess not, otherwise the number would probably by higher than 100k/year (still around 1.2 million deaths per year in Africa alone, although hard to know what fraction are related to lack of condom use, but it probably a significant number)

Welcome to the human condition.  People find a reason.  Christians are not special in this.

Judging by many politicians, there is an overlap that needs to be taken into account.

If you absolutely must die for something, let it not be for religion. Instead, die for your country. Wait...no...scratch that. Die while doing the most excitingly dangerous thing you have ever dreamed
of doing. Better yet, scrape death while doing the most excitingly dangerous thing you have ever
dreamed of doing, and live to tell about it. Bottom line is....do not die for your religion. Period.

How many people do Christians kill every year for their faith? I am interested in that statistic too, you got the numbers on that one pope?
