Criticism of the show "demonstrates a profound ignorance of transgender people since this show doesn't include any," said GLAAD's Rich Ferraro."

I guess it's transsexual if you want to get nit-picky.  The physical characteristics change but the self-identification doesn't (GLAAD presumes). But that's a pretty thin thread upon which to hang your rebuttal.

Shame on The Hub for exploiting this issue to get attention for another ho-hum  cartoon show.

What SheZow is coming to the Hub:

That is just awful

not because of the Transgender thing but because Shezow is such a terrible show.

Dear Cultural Conservative people;
I am on the left end of your movement and allow me to point out a flaw in your strategry: If you protest something that will make more people aware of it then would have been if you didn't protest it

don't protest it

There's a TV Tropes page for this series.  Apparently it's more crossdressing than an actual gender change. Of course, given the way this country is, I don't expect this'll last more than three episodes on the Hub.

The whole idea around this kind of show seems hinged on a weak premise with high risk.

A 12-year-old kid? ...who turns into a girl?  Why?  What "super powers" do you get as a girl?  A 12-year-old girl, mind you.  (Yes, I know adult women have super powers.  We're not talking about those.)

So do his genitals magically change in a flurry of glitter dust and lightning bolts or is it more like a vacuum-powered, transformer kind of a reconfiguration?  The correct level of outrage depends upon the answer.

Precision Boobery: So do his genitals magically change in a flurry of glitter dust and lightning bolts or is it more like a vacuum-powered, transformer kind of a reconfiguration?  The correct level of outrage depends upon the answer.

Neither.  He's 12 and it's just a costume.  Although his hair changes, too, I suppose.  He fakes the voice (badly), and even occasionally forgets to do the girl voice.

Also, it's a relatively amusing show if you have a high tolerance for terrible puns and kitschy 70's color schemes.

Basically, right wingers are sperging like usual over what amounts to a 22 minute version of the joke where Bugs Bunny dresses up as a woman and it's hilarious, because, get this, Bugs isn't a woman.

Really, the outrage is about as credible as when they tried to start a 'thing' about how Spongebob cartoons were trying to indoctrinate our childrens into communism.

I think my favorite thing about the show currently is that the creator spent years trying to get it made, and it all started from him wondering 'What if Billy Batson had accidently said 'Shezam' instead of 'Shazam'.'

/Also, to the guy who said it was a terrible show, I'll fight you.
//...okay, it is, but I enjoy it anyways.

One of those is a good animated series.

One of them is a charming toy commercial.

The remaining two are crummy toy commercials which pander to the lowest common denominator and can't even be arsed to maintain things like color continuity between frames. And forget about storytelling.

Most of the really good derp seems to have fallen off the internet but I found this one quote which, although I think the person I found saying it was possibly just jerking someone's chain, was a good example of the sort of thing I remember:

" Spongebob Squarepants is a show that promotes Communist ideals, all the way down to intentionally keeping the populace stupid so they don't question their place. This is especially evident in episodes centered around Mr. Krabs and/or Plankton "

I also remember things like the #1 hat episode being given as examples, and the fact that Spongebob has the gall to actually like and enjoy his menial labor job

Um, Batman: TAS had a lot of progressivism in it, dude.

Do you not remember the very, very thinly veiled lesbian relationship they somehow managed to slip past the censors? (They apparently got so good at it they went back and changed something they'd gotten past the censors because *the creators* thought it was a bridge to far. I think it was the Joker adressing Harley and Ivy with "My, you've been busy little beavers, haven't you?!" )

And they took villains whose entire  existence was 'I dunno, they're just a badguy' and, well, gave them somewhat relateable, even pretty goddamn tragic origins. The treatment they gave Victor Fries is pretty farking bleeding heart.

...he's a kid in a dress.  It's just that simple.  That is the whole joke, and it is, in fact, a joke, such as it is.

When this gets canceled after 2 episodes after massive protests from both sides, I'm so just throwing it in the face of anyone and everyone who ever complains 'X couldn't be made nowadays because of the PC thugs'.  If they tried to make Blazing Saddles nowadays there'd be a riot as the NAACP and American Family Values fought to see who could be offended the loudest.

Gender transformation hero has been done:

On a related note, that Worldwatch comic had a guy who was a rabid homophobe turn into a big gay Captain Marvel.  And would retain the memories once transformed back.  The guy wasn't happy about the situation at all.

Wasn't there a dub somewhere that changed it to the Lights being replaced by their identical twin sisters or something? It wasn't English, I don't think: maybe Italian or something?
