2004-01-02 11:19:07 PM
thats what they get for worshipping the wrong god!

2004-01-02 11:19:12 PM
I normally don't comment on things like this..but how is this even CLOSE to being ironic?

2004-01-02 11:19:23 PM
I predict no less than 10 people will take issue with the Ironic tag.

2004-01-02 11:19:53 PM
EverStoned

Some stupid people (as in, Bevets-level stupid) believe that Muslims actually worship a piece of a meteor.

2004-01-02 11:20:18 PM
Did Pat Robertson say anything about this? Y'know, from his sources?

2004-01-02 11:20:33 PM
"A meteorite scientists are calling 'Scud' and having come from somewhere in central Iraq. More details as they become available..."

2004-01-02 11:20:40 PM
and they don't wanna fund NASA anymore?

2004-01-02 11:20:43 PM
Where is your god now, Pat Robertson?

2004-01-02 11:21:28 PM
Funny, yes. Irony? I don't think so.

irony ( P ) Pronunciation Key (r-n, r-)
n. pl. ironies

The use of words to express something different from and often opposite to their literal meaning.
An expression or utterance marked by a deliberate contrast between apparent and intended meaning.
A literary style employing such contrasts for humorous or rhetorical effect. See Synonyms at wit1.

Incongruity between what might be expected and what actually occurs: Hyde noted the irony of Ireland's copying the nation she most hated (Richard Kain).
An occurrence, result, or circumstance notable for such incongruity. See Usage Note at ironic.

Dimensio -

I did not know that! How rare.

2004-01-02 11:22:43 PM
I thought wrath and smiting involved more than minor property damage... what happened to whole cities being destroyed in a storm of fire and brimstone?

2004-01-02 11:22:48 PM
Learn the definition of irony. Live the definition of irony.

2004-01-02 11:22:55 PM
What the hell does this have to do with Pat Robertson? Can we have at least one thread a day that doesn't become a religious or political flamewar? The answer, apparently, is "no"...

2004-01-02 11:22:57 PM
swahnhennessy :

you got that right

2004-01-02 11:23:16 PM
I thought those people in Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom worshipped pieces of a meteorite?

2004-01-02 11:23:20 PM
The End is Near!

2004-01-02 11:23:46 PM
Hokei - It's no good... Americans will never understand the meaning of the word... I blame it all on that Morisette woman who ever she was...

2004-01-02 11:24:16 PM
I see an all ironic tag day in some people's future.

2004-01-02 11:24:33 PM
Hey idiots biatching about the "ironic" tag:

What are meteorites made of?

Teh tag was brilliant.

2004-01-02 11:24:39 PM
I predict no less than 10 people will take issue with the Ironic tag.

I'll take the over on that one.

2004-01-02 11:24:53 PM
NOT IRONIC

2004-01-02 11:24:53 PM
Message for you, sir!

2004-01-02 11:25:31 PM
This is not ironic.

(Just stepping up to the plate for swahnhennessy )

2004-01-02 11:25:41 PM
I'm no meteoriteologist but I'd have to say they're made up of mostly air, with bits of gold and AOL 9.0 CDs.

2004-01-02 11:25:46 PM
"Allah, what happened to you? You used to be so cool...

2004-01-02 11:26:30 PM
What the hell does this have to do with Pat Robertson? Can we have at least one thread a day that doesn't become a religious or political flamewar? The answer, apparently, is "no"...

The meteorite was the fault of the Bush Administration.

2004-01-02 11:26:39 PM
The makeup of meteorites has no bearing on this misuse of the irony tag. I promise.

2004-01-02 11:27:09 PM
It is ironic. After an earthquake, you would not expect another natural disaster, such as a meteor hitting the place.

2004-01-02 11:27:22 PM
Yeah, nickel-iron...irony....BWAAHAAAHAA!

2004-01-02 11:27:23 PM
Well its the end of the woooooooooor*cough**cough*

*ahem*

2004-01-02 11:27:32 PM
It's ironic in the Alanis Morisette sense. aka, not.

2004-01-02 11:27:37 PM
Iranic.

2004-01-02 11:27:53 PM
Well, to be fair, Alanis Morissette is Canadian. Take that you dirty hockey-playing canucks!

I mean...

2004-01-02 11:27:58 PM
doesnt this stuff hit countries all around the world all the time?

2004-01-02 11:28:03 PM
2004-01-02 11:24:33 PM Tinian
Hey idiots biatching about the "ironic" tag:
What are meteorites made of?

A rock? I don't get it.

2004-01-02 11:28:11 PM
Iran was hit by falling Iron. Iran, Iron. Get it now?

No? well, it;s still odd. i mean, the probability of earth being hit by a meteorite large enough to survive burning up on re-entry, then having it fall onto land in a populated country are, what a billion to one?

2004-01-02 11:28:33 PM

"It's like a meeeeteooooorrrr
right after an earthquaaaaake...."

2004-01-02 11:29:10 PM
Babol doesn't have anything to do w/babylon or the tower of babel right?

2004-01-02 11:29:31 PM
"It said the impact sent locals in panic onto the streets in the northern town of Babol in Mazandaran province."

Locals in panic are so much fun to watch.

2004-01-02 11:29:31 PM
Isn't it ironic? No Alanis I'm afraid isn't. Much like this post it just a documentation of a bummer.

I can't help but think of doomsdayers with this.

2004-01-02 11:29:34 PM
Tinian: Most meteorites are stony and made of the same minerals as terrestrial rocks - minerals which contain silicon, oxygen, magnesium, iron and calcium. Stony meteorites can be subdivided into those which formed from melts (igneous rocks, like basalts) on their parent bodies, and those which remained unchanged since formation (or aggregation) of the parents. The latter are known as 'chondrites', after the small rounded droplets of once-molten material (chondrules) which they contain.

/still inappropriate use of the ironic tag, asshat

2004-01-02 11:29:58 PM
Lord_Marquis: Yeah, I get it. It's a pun, not irony.

2004-01-02 11:30:04 PM
It is ironic. After an earthquake, you would not expect another natural disaster, such as a meteor hitting the place.

Looks like the Servants of Cthulu have played "Combined Disasters." Really, they should have made the meteor the actual disaster and just added the power from Giant Kudzu or something.

2004-01-02 11:30:22 PM
Arguing is fun.

2004-01-02 11:31:11 PM
What are meteorites made of?

The majority are chondrite.

2004-01-02 11:31:44 PM
rofl, Ms Information

I like "Iranic," good one!
"Isn't it Iranic... don't you think..."

2004-01-02 11:31:48 PM
A rock? I don't get it.

Geez, I'm a filthy, stinking liberal as defined by Tinian, but even i got it and chuckled.

Stalin would have wanted us to laugh, comrade.

2004-01-02 11:32:00 PM
Ms. Information: You've said it best.

2004-01-02 11:32:01 PM
"And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;

And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, and she is shaken of a mighty wind"
- (Rev 6:12-13)

(Sorry. Couldn't resist)
