70 first half points.  I'm no expert, but I bet the odds are against you winning if you give up 70 first half points.

Everybody said that if LeBron ever picked up a post-up game, it would be all over.

Then he got lessons from Hakeem...

Yeah, now LeBron's the complete package.  Truly unplayable.

So was Wade fined for his Game 3 flop?  No?  Oh...

Crazy how the flop rules never go after superstars like Wade, LeBron, Manu, Paul, Harden, etc. The day Stern retires will probably be one of the most celebrated days in NBA and basketball history.

No, not quite as much. But he was the one that started the whole "no fun league".

Bigger issue is that the new guy will want to put his personal stamp on the league, meaning he will swing either greatly enhance the current policies, or go much more lax. Since the successor is hand-picked by Stern, it's likely the new league will become more like Stern's vision, but on steroids.

I loved the Kemp/Payton era Sonics as a kid and whole situation pissed me off, so I can't imagine how you guys felt and feel. I'm also a Mavericks fan, so we're probably one of the top 5 Stern hating NBA fanbases. Then again, he's pissed off a lot of fanbases in his career.

//realistically, George fouled him before the first putback attempt

So I guess once the Heat realized they aren't going to be punished for flopping and LeBron can actually recommend it without penalty, they are just going to dial it up to 11 tonight. Honestly, someone needs to go for the ejection, knock LBJ or Wade in the mouth and yell "NOW THAT IS A FARKING FOUL"

You're aware that the Pacers fouled LeBron three times on that play, right?

Oh, because someone fell awkwardly, they're flopping. I'll pull your arm from behind while you're in the air and we'll see if you stay upright, okay?

Wizards did that to the Cavs like ~5 years back.  Their argument was "well, we're going to get called for it anyways, so we're just going to hit them hard each time they go down the lane."  I think the Wiz lasted longer than they should have.

Honestly, Wade is the one who deserves it most this side of Manu; LBJ though was rarer with it until he started playing more and more with Wade. His comments today somewhat ring true because he's added it to his game like elite players working on their low-post game

Not even close to the same thing.  The Bulls stopped fast breaks by wrapping their arms around people.  The Wiz were out for blood.

On the other side, who could really blame him. Based on the league's opinion, there's been only 4 flops all playoffs. If what he, Wade, and Manu do isn't flopping and it gets him one step closer to the title, he's been doing his job as an elite player.

Yeah, he lost all his minutes to Andersen because Andersen at least occasionally produces something on offense. But after a stop, that's good enough to make me like him and forget his suckiness.

Comparing Birdman and rodman really is unfair. Birdman hustles some, but he does not have the drive to succeed that Rodman had. A 6-8 guy averaging 15 rebounds a game was just sick. He did all the dirty work, going down on the floor for loose balls, changing people's shots, doing everything he could so that Jordan and Pippen (and earlier, Thomas) could concentrate on scoring. There are a number of reasons that Rodman is in the HOF - one of the all-time great defenders.

It's not unfair. Birdman is just a really poor man's Rodman. Not quite as crazy, not quite as good as anything, ultimately. But still in the mold of him. Kinda like how photocopies deteriorate in quality over time.

I never saw anyone answer the question the other night in the Spurs thread. If Timmy wins this year, he will have won titles in 3 different decades (90's, 00's, and 10's). Has any other top flight player accomplished this feat? I know Russell and Jordan have more titles, but theirs were clustered into long stretches.

Is Timmy on the cusp of an unprecedented feat by a top flight guy?

Probably. Kind of a difficult situation to imagine happening too often, since you basically have to come into the league late in a decade to a team that's already good and was kinda tanking the previous season in order to get you.

Kareem did not have titles across three decades, but he had a longer gap, assuming this will be the Spurs' last title if they win it. 1971 (w/ Bucks), 1988 (w/Lakers).

Spider Salley was a decent player and it doesn't surprise me that he got the 3 decade accomplishment. But if Timy does it all with one team, and as one of the top 3 guys every time (if not #1) for his team, I feel that Timmy's would be the superior accomplishment.

At this point, he's pretty safe with a legacy. He's probably 6th or 7th all time and the only one playing that shows signs of passing him is LBJ (unless Spurs beat them this year) or if Kobe gets some experimental cyborg implantation and wins three titles in 3 years

Well, if you can't score, keep drawing fouls on poor shot selection.

/Wade, you waited too long to hoist that sh*t

I kinda have to admire that offensive foul on LeBron - they called that even without a flop.

On the one hand, it's nice that they're not requiring flops in order to draw phantom calls.
On the other hand, THEY'RE JUST BLOWING THE WHISTLE WITH NOTHING HAPPENING

Isn't Manu patient zero for flopping in the NBA? I mean that not so much as snark as a legit question, he's the one that people point to as getting the flopping thing going (or is there someone else). Wade gets the flop heat and he's one, but most of it is from the 2006 series, which wasn't flopping just all calls in his favor. I'd still personally put Spurs>Heat in the pure flop department.

Orlando Johnson reminds the rest of the Pacers of the Magic, who suck. Plus the Pacers really like guys with completely nondescript names. Paul George, George Hill, Danny Granger...Sam Young fits in. Orlando is way too memorable a name.

Not sure if that was actual a foul on James (?) but this is why I love Hibbert and wasn't mad when he got a "max" salary contract.

TheJoe03: IAmRight: redmid17: I guess that's what I get for traveling all day and being at work without checking ESPN. Mea culpa

You also missed John Hollinger (former ESPN analyst, now Memphis' GM)'s hilarious tweet about Irony 1, him 0 (he was the only ESPN analyst to pick the Spurs to win the West before the season).

/any time you can let a 25% 3-point shooter take that shot, you have to let him...STOP BEING STUPID, WADE

Hollinger got a job as GM? That's awesome.

Definitely a great pickup

This Roy fellow seems good at the end of games; I don't know though, I'd pull him from defense to avoid getting a foul now.

I want to hate Lebron but he's just too farking good for me to hate. He's also not a giant assbag like Jordan was, so that helps too

i swear the Heat are like minus-30 while i am watching

Roy being all assertive and shiat.

If the Pacers win it was because of Hibbert and Stephenson.

2013-05-28 11:10:34 PM
It'd be nice if anyone bothered trying to box Hibbert out.

/wow, that's some good fixing the game, Crawford

It's good to rest him at the end of games when you have the lead. Don't want to tire him out.

/wait lebron just fouled out
// erm that was a weak foul

LeBron James has actually fouled out of a game!

2013-05-28 11:11:05 PM
