I'm not saying that this is right or anything, but how many people here remember riding in the back of pickups, station wagons, and suburbans as kids? How many remember the seat-belt being used as punishment?

Like a lot of others here I was at first tempted to be snarky or " who cares ". Then an old memory popped up  of my time on the children's ward of U.S.N. Hospital, Camp Pendleton. One of my patients was a twelve year
boy about the size of a six year old. He was in a 3/4 body cast in an attempt to repair bone deformity from having been raised in a cage on the kitchen floor. All his life, in a cage, complements of his loving parents.
While I'm sure the dad from TFA is telling the truth, I still have wonder.

What I said above doesn't mean I am against seat belts either. Study after study shows that they save kids and that is a good thing. The guy driving the truck with the kid in the crate in back SHOULD have been ticketed, that's just stupid.  The fact that this hit the news though shows what a bunch of hand wringing pansies the media has become.

minoridiot: At 10 year-old, the girl knew what she was getting into.
Unless it is illegal to have a 10 year-old in the back of the pickup, I don't have any problem with this.

In some states it's illegal to have anyone in the back of the pickup, others you have to be 18 to ride in the back of a pickup.  At the same time, unless the cage was locked, or if there was some unsafe driving I don't share in the outrage.

I note that the PA State Troopers just alerted the Millvale police, as opposed to catching the truck on the turnpike.  I supposed speeding tickets are still a higher priority than the welfare of children for them.

/never gotten a ticket in PA, but not for lack of the PA State Troopers trying
