No, just no. I use Facebook to keep up with family thats too far away to visit, and a few friends. I dont use Twitter. I dont want to use Twitter. I have no use for Twitter. I dont want Facebook becoming Twitter.

I agree with one of the comments on TFA:

"Hashtags make some sense in a system where you can search anybody's comments on a trending topic. It helps you see what's being said, even if you don't follow the tweeter.

Hashtags make little sense on Facebook, where you pretty much only see the posts your friends make. Do I really need to know how many of my identified "friends" are talking about the same thing?
"

Then again, I'm a bitter old man who doesn't have 600 "friends" on Facebook. I don't need tags to search through my sub-100 friends and family.

I've never used or visited twitter.

what's a hashtag?  i thought it was just some kind of slang... does the hashtag actually do something?  or does it only mean something?

you are basically marking your tweets with a specific keyword so anyone who searches for that keyword will see your tweet.

If you want people to see what you are saying about Fark on twitter, you would add "#Fark" to your tweet to anyone searching for Fark will see what you have to say.

Maybe Facebook wouldn't be losing so much money if they hired people who could code worth a damn.

Twitter is the first Internet tech that makes me realize I'm getting old.

Originally, it was used to categorize a Twitter posting.  So if you're posting about, say, the Detroit Tigers you could put something like #DetTigers and people who are interested in the Tigers could just pull up all the comments including that tag.

Then, it turned into some sort of meme-based "humor" which, frankly, I don't get.  Like people use it instead of a PS for some reason.

How easily we forget Facebook was originally just a wall for twitter like status posts; including a the 140 character limit.

I hate news stories that retweet twitter tweets and call it news.

It's like slashies, but shorter, less clever, and more annoying.  So instead of ending a mocking post with //That's okay, we all do it

You'd end it with #hahajkdonthatemeplzkthx. It's a way of officially declaring yourself to be clever, because if you just wait for other people's reactions, sometimes they realize you're an idiot before you tell them HASHTAG YOU JUST GOT INSULTED.

I'm sure it won't be like Instagram, where people add 34 hash tags to every post, just to add to the annoyance level.

Doesn't strike me at all as similar to slashies, which are used to mark a tangential comment.  Slashies are much more like the old-form postscript you put on a letter.  Hashtags seem to be something else entirely.

I don't mind them so much on instagram. But then I only got into that because of work. I apparently have a twitter account but I have never used it on account I never wanted to self identify as a twit.

Did Facebook stop doing that thing where it would group together multiple posts in your feed if they had phrasing in common?

That really made a mess of my feed around holidays.

Facebook is were I find out where some guy I meet at a party in 2005 is having for lunch and twitter is where I converse informally with people with common interests. People who blast twitter don't know how to use it.
