Wow.  They really are taking a hard stand against progressive rock.

What a farking hit job. Nice going, AP.

One example: Boko Haram IS undoubtedly a terrorist group, even if you can parse that it hasn't been officially placed on the list.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boko_Haram

KERRY (on Saturday): "Boko Haram is a terrorist organization."

Oh, come on.  "A Whiter Shade of Pale" is a pretty good song.

He should be honest about our drone program though.  The US government doesn't really consider them "civilian casualties" if any two of the three criteria are met:

1.  The civilians are brown people.

2.  The strike took place in a country that your average geographically challenged American couldn't find on a map even if you excluded three continents.

3.  The strike was intended to kill someone who was somehow connected with terrorism in any way, such as having "al-" in his name or having a name ending in a vowel.

Bear in mind that satisfying only one of the three will be enough if there are no American TV news crews filming.

While it's true he used the present and future tense, so he may be technically correct, he certainly didn't go out of his way to paint a complete picture. If the policy during the vast majority of the existance of the drone program was Y, but has only recently been changed to X (maybe - has this new policy gone into effect yet?), it's misleading to state that the policy is X.

And claiming that you have one of the most accountable and fairest drone strike programs is misleading if no other country uses drones "to kill individuals in foreign lands."

Sooo . . . does Kerry have the authority to make the decision to designate Boko Haram a terrorist group? I'm guessing he didn't suddenly switch to speaking as a private individual for that sentence in his speech.
If Kerry believes that they should be designated a terrorist group, his first step should be to work within the administration to change that designation, not unilaterally making the decision in order to make a nice-sounding speech. There might be a reason they're not on the list.

I notice you didn't mention his factually-incorrect statements about the Ethiopean economy or our adherence to the Kyoto protocols? This isn't a hit-piece - it's journalism. It's what the AP (and other outlets) should be doing.

I'm tempted to go with Subby on this one.

The United States is a post-fact society. Fact checkers are concerned with seeming unbiased, so they do not actually do the thing that their name indicates they do. That's okay. This is how it goes. You should be used to it.

TalenLee: The United States is a post-fact society.

The United States is an uncertainty based society.  Uncertainty is what allows morons to have their moronic opinions repeatedly indulged on cable news, and cable news hosts to provide for their families. New Journalism is based on scoop & controversy, not facts.  And fact-checking from the scoop & controversy crowd isn't to be trusted.   After all, facts are incidental and malleable for them during their day jobs, why not all the time?
