What the fark is going on with people? Is the world going to hell faster or is the media just able to report stories like this more often due to advances in technology? I can't go a day without reading some article about people lashing out and beating/raping/stabbing/raping/murdering others.

Yes there is almost always a discrepancy between what the media reports as an assault rifle and an actual assault rifle.

We'll likely not know what it was, though I would submit that there's little meaningful difference between semi-, burst- or fully automatic weapons when used against civilians.

But, of course, now is not the time to talk about banning Grand Theft Auto and other violent video games. Talking about it now would be inappropriate, right Hollywood liberals?

Ed Tom Bell: I was sheriff of this county when I was twenty-five years old. Hard to believe. My grandfather was a lawman; father too. Me and him was sheriffs at the same time; him up in Plano and me out here. I think he's pretty proud of that. I know I was. Some of the old time sheriffs never even wore a gun. A lotta folks find that hard to believe. Jim Scarborough'd never carried one; that's the younger Jim. Gaston Boykins wouldn't wear one up in Comanche County. I always liked to hear about the oldtimers. Never missed a chance to do so. You can't help but compare yourself against the oldtimers. Can't help but wonder how they would have operated these times. There was this boy I sent to the 'lectric chair at Huntsville Hill here a while back. My arrest and my testimony. He killt a fourteen-year-old girl. Papers said it was a crime of passion but he told me there wasn't any passion to it. Told me that he'd been planning to kill somebody for about as long as he could remember. Said that if they turned him out he'd do it again. Said he knew he was going to hell. "Be there in about fifteen minutes". I don't know what to make of that. I sure don't. The crime you see now, it's hard to even take its measure. It's not that I'm afraid of it. I always knew you had to be willing to die to even do this job. But, I don't want to push my chips forward and go out and meet something I don't understand. A man would have to put his soul at hazard. He'd have to say, "O.K., I'll be part of this world."

Look up Eden, Concho County, Texas on a map. Google Maps will do. There's nothing there. It's pretty much a company town where the main employer is a for-profit prison.

To quote the Wikipedia article:

The population was 2,766 at the 2010 census. About half of the population consists of inmates housed at the Eden Detention Center, a for-profit prison operated by Corrections Corporation of America under contract with the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Why would anybody bother going on a random shooting spree out there?

Are you being serious? Anyways you should be blaming the nerds all over the world that are responsible for video games, not "Hollywood". That's just a weird thing to say to be honest. Hell, all you needed to do was be a dumbass that blames violent movies and music and your inane "Hollywood liberal" concept would at least make sense.

I've read that we are LESS violent today (per capita) than we were in the 70's-early 80's, so my bet would be on technology...

Holy hyperbole Batman! Yes, suspend the constitution, that's exactly what he tried to do. Restrictions similar to what were proposed federally have been in place here in California for years now, with no suspension of constitutional rights. The actual impact on crime may be difficult to impossible to determine, but it was what the majority wanted (and the world didn't end). If enough people decide that would be desirable on a federal level, it will happen across the country. With no suspension of Second Amendment rights.
