No La Villa Strangiato?  List fails.

2013-05-26 04:51:56 PM
The list is thin and far too politically correct.

2013-05-26 04:56:52 PM

JasonOfOrillia: No La Villa Strangiato?  List fails.

You are correct.

/and Nirvana?
//a top 50 guitar solo?
///they have their place in history, but guitar solo is not part of it

2013-05-26 05:02:01 PM
Solo - without accompaniment

This list fails. I believe the word they were looking for was guitar bridge.

2013-05-26 05:05:41 PM
List fails without Robin Trower and John McLaughlin occupying about half the list.

2013-05-26 05:17:07 PM
Guitar solos are cheesy, and almost never improve the song.

2013-05-26 05:18:26 PM
And no Jeff Beck?  Really.

2013-05-26 05:32:21 PM
Fails without No More Tears, Tom Sawyer, and Would?.

2013-05-26 06:11:00 PM
No me awkwardly trying to do a an extended scale? This list blows.

2013-05-26 06:18:43 PM
Well after reading the comments so, far, there's no point actually reading the list then, is there?

"I love rock and roll"? Are you farking kidding me?

Most of those are riffs...... Especially #1

Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: Guitar solos are cheesy, and almost never improve the song.

I beg to differ , though I'll agree in modern formula pop/rock it's generally garbage. There are plenty out there who still can play.

2013-05-26 06:44:13 PM
A guitar solo is like premature ejaculation: you know it's coming, and there's nothing you can do about it.

2013-05-26 06:49:25 PM
Two Radiohead songs in the top ten? List fails.

2013-05-26 06:49:26 PM
List fails.. they always fail..

/fail

2013-05-26 06:51:55 PM
No Metallica? Seriously? List fails so hard there are no words.

2013-05-26 06:52:42 PM
No Stevie Ray Vaughan? Utter utter fail
Would throw in the Mccartney, Harrison, Lennon solo on The End

JasonOfOrillia: No La Villa Strangiato?  List fails.

Agree on that too

2013-05-26 06:53:16 PM
I'd like to add:

The solo at the beginning of The Dead Kennedy's "Holiday in Cambodia"
I would have went with Hendrix's "Voodoo Child"
Metallica's "Battery"
Suicidal Tendencies "You can't being me down"
Carlos Santana's "Black Magic Woman"
Pantera's "Cemetery Gates"
Cheap Tricks 3-guitar solo of "Dream Police"

2013-05-26 07:01:23 PM
Martin Barre's lead on "Aqualung"
Tony Iomi on "Sweet Leaf"
Alvin Lee "I'd Love To change The World"
Johnny Winter "Still Alive and Well"

2013-05-26 07:02:56 PM
David Spinozza on Aisumasen from John Lennon's Mind Games.

2013-05-26 07:03:47 PM
Comment bait list is comment bait.

(1) hEY, WE SoMETIMES ListEN TO TRAckS THAT WEREn'T hITS(!)
(2) Thank goodness they had "a little help from musicians ranging from Tribes to Two Door Cinema Club." One shudders to think, shudders.

2013-05-26 07:04:31 PM

Gunderson: Carlos Santana's "Black Magic Woman"

You mean Peter Green, right?

2013-05-26 07:08:39 PM
No Alvin Lee 'i'm goin' home'

2013-05-26 07:09:59 PM

runcible spork: Gunderson: Carlos Santana's "Black Magic Woman"

You mean Peter Green, right?

No, looks like all Carlos to me from the 2:15 mark

Majick Thise: Solo - without accompaniment

This list fails. I believe the word they were looking for was guitar bridge.

Yup. In that vein, my choice would be Steve Stevens live back when he was with Billy Idol. He played a Bach organ concerto on guitar synth for his solo. Incredible.

2013-05-26 07:11:23 PM
No Mark Knopfler?  Tunnel of Love perhaps?

2013-05-26 07:11:42 PM
Ever since I first heard it 25 years ago, Sweet Child o' Mine's guitar solo has been my favorite. I went through that whole list wondering if it would be on there, but I have to admit I'm really surprised it made #1.

2013-05-26 07:13:06 PM
List fails without "Floods" by Pantera.

2013-05-26 07:13:09 PM
In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida  baby

2013-05-26 07:16:48 PM

Gunderson: No, looks like all Carlos to me from the 2:15 mark

Bah, that's latter day goofishness, already watered down with too much (bad) fusion. And he still lifted the (original) solo right from Peter Green and Fleetwood Mac.

2013-05-26 07:19:12 PM
Iron Maiden's ROTAM should've been in the top 10.

2013-05-26 07:20:08 PM
Two 'Rage Against the Machine' and not one Duane Allman?

List fails simply because of this.

When you add the rest  and have GnR as Number 1 you just know the writer/magazine is simply trolling for responses.

And wasting any serious music fan's time.

2013-05-26 07:20:36 PM

flaminio: Two Radiohead songs in the top ten? List fails.

is there something about those solos that you dislike?

2013-05-26 07:22:55 PM
List fails without Guitar Joe, Steady Pete, and Sweet Willie Junior.

2013-05-26 07:22:58 PM
I haven't gotten through the entire list, but if Maggot Brain is not on it, then it fails.

2013-05-26 07:23:44 PM
Glad Slash made it to number one. Couldn't read past the first few entries on my phone and can't afford to youtube the ones I've never heard.

I like RATM, but I didn't think guitar trickery was their thing really.

2013-05-26 07:27:32 PM
Eddie Hazel's Maggot Brain should be number one with Jimi Hendrix's Voodoo Child (Slight Return) at number two.

2013-05-26 07:28:03 PM
No Duane Allman or Dickey Betts?  No Jerry Garcia?

Hell for that matter, no Derek Trucks?

2013-05-26 07:28:24 PM

nburghmatt: flaminio: Two Radiohead songs in the top ten? List fails.

is there something about those solos that you dislike?

No. But can you seriously tell me there are not many other guitar solos that could take the place of at least one of them? Giving Radiohead two top-ten spots seems, well, like fail to me.

2013-05-26 07:29:13 PM
Neil Young Cinnamon Girl

2013-05-26 07:30:29 PM

Another Government Employee: No Jerry Garcia?

Hahaahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahaaahaahahahaaahaaaaaaa. >gasp!<

>wheeze<

Thanks for that.

2013-05-26 07:33:22 PM
Eruption is crass?!?

This is truly a joke of a list.

2013-05-26 07:36:18 PM
No Steely Dan?

No Randy Rhoads?

These guys are not guitar players.

2013-05-26 07:36:58 PM
Admit it, we all knew this list would fail. Stop acting so shocked and offended. =) In fact, someone start a poll thread to determine Fark's top 50 solos. That thread would never, ever end.

2013-05-26 07:37:33 PM
No Zappa?

2013-05-26 07:37:55 PM
List fails without

Light Towers - Breaking Garbage
The Fire Brigade Lives - 1895
John Owens - Irregular
Threely - Zoot Suit
Musical Chairs - Our Circus
Tromboner - Angels From Above
Deep Reigns - Carly
No More Bands - Enough

2013-05-26 07:40:52 PM
Comfortably Numb isn't even in the top 50?

Really?

2013-05-26 07:47:10 PM
Whomever compiled that list should have their list making priveleges revoked.

2013-05-26 07:49:10 PM
The Strokes, Oasis, and Radiohead are all better than Eddie Van Halen?

List is so flawed it can't be taken seriously.

2013-05-26 07:50:27 PM
2 mentions of the Strokes and 1 Oasis, yet no Cars "Just What I Needed"? Hell, I am not even a KISS fan but the solo from "Strutter" deserved to get credit over a third of their choices.

2013-05-26 07:56:24 PM

runcible spork: Another Government Employee: No Jerry Garcia?

Hahaahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahaaahaahahahaaahaaaaaaa. >gasp!<

>wheeze<

Thanks for that.

First thing I thought of.

But seriously -- I didn't read tfa, but it presumably fails without Moonage Daydream.

2013-05-26 07:58:42 PM
It is hard to put into words how much that list sucked.
