Well, for what it's worth, Russians tend to be belligerent assholes to begin with. Especially when they are drunk, which is nearly 24/7.

I'm just happy that the news organization reporting this is counterpoint. . . I mean opposing views.

Spirit is quite literally the worst air line I've ever flown. When I flew them to Chicago the day of the really big spring snow storm, they were going to have us fly with a so-so tire until the pilot refused because he didn't want to land the thing in a blizzard on a tire they'd already announced to us was iffy. Oh, and this was after they flat out lied to us and said O'Hare sassy closed, which we all called bullshiat on because we had the FAA real time airport status page open on our phones.

They may be cheap but I'd rather take Amtrak. With all Spirit's delays it's not much slower.

Did you know Spirit is the only two-star rated commercial airline flying in North America? That puts them in the same company as Sudan Airways.

Sounds like US Air, which incidentally flies to Tel Aviv, diverting to an airport and asking that an Orthodox Jew be arrested for praying in Hebrew.

They must use the same casting couch from the 50s in airline HR offices when hiring stewardesses.

Apparently you still use the same terminology as they did in the 50s for flight attendants, so it fits.

I did not know that. I expected no frills, but I didn't expect just that level of suck. On the bright side, they're such cheapskates that they don't cancel flights unless they have to, and we were one of the only flights that actually made it into Chicago that day. Everybody else canceled early.

Well unless you have a direct flight flying isnt that much quicker anyways between"security", layovers, and nothing ever arriving on time.

They're not the only one in North America. According to that site, Cubana (Cuban airline with flights to Canada and Mexico) also has a two-star rating. Which I guess sort of proves your point.

Whereas if you book an Amtrak sleeper berth you can stretch out in comfort, your meals are covered, and you can bring all the alcohol you can drink as long as you stick to drinking in your roomette. It's not a bad way to travel.

I'd take Amtrak if it wasn't four times as expensive as airfare, twice as slow as driving yourself, and about as comfortable as spending days trapped in a no-tell-motel room with a bed with the "magic fingers" stuck on.

Satanic_Hamster: Sounds like they were just being belligerent/rude/loud...

Slavic languages always sounds like that. It's like Mandarin Chinese always sounds like people are having an argument, or Vietnamese sounds somewhat condescending.

At least to Yankee ears.

Russians and Bulgarians and such sound belligerent just because its an aspect of how their languages function. The tones and rhythms bear no correlation to the Germanic languages that English is descended from. But Yankee English speakers, like any other native speaker of a particular language, interpret the sounds and tones of an unknown language within the context of their own linguistic rhythms, and the emotional construct that those tones convey within the context of their own linguistic tradition.

Imagine the first Spanish to interact with the Chinese back in the late 1500s. They must have felt like they'd just landed on Mars. Their answer to that problem they had in the Americas was to ban the domestic languages altogether and force the natives to learn Spanish, under pain of death.

An awful lot of witchcraft prosecutions under the Spanish conquistadors were entirely based on the idea that they couldn't understand the language being spoken, and therefore it had to be some sort of sorcery. They systematically butchered millions of people for that reason alone.

Thats pretty much the attitude in Arizona, Alabama and South Carolina. As well as a few other states. There was a woman on the news just a couple years ago who made herself fifteen minutes famous for throwing people out of her restaurant if they were speaking their native language to each other. She posted "English Only" signs all over the place. What became obvious was that she was just a nativist, racist asshole.

In other words, a perfect TeaPottier type.
