Okay, sorry for thinking this was new.  I received my Smithsonian.com weekly newsletter this morning (yeah, I'm a history geek), and they both called this out in the subject line and the body of their newsletter.  They didn't actually call it new; I inferred that.  Why they're linking to four year old YouTube videos is beyond me.

So Mods, replace the cool tag with Repeat if you like Mods, or just redlight it if you think this amounts to spamming the oh-so-packed video tab, but I for one hadn't read the article four years ago and thought this was neat.

It's a very interesting video, and for the record, this is the first time I've seen it. I'm sure that applies to a lot of people on fark, so don't sweat it, okay. :-)

And yes, it's very neat.

Fascinating vid.

And naturally they don't have footage of the time she invented Socialism.

She can speak? I thought she was blind.

But the Amelie Earhart hat-trick makes it all worthwhile.

It has been pointed out that this is a repeat from over four years ago, but we've decided to let it run again for those of you who didn't see it the first time.

It's new to me. I had no idea such footage existed.

It's one thing if a repeat is a repeat that was greened yesterday, or even this week. But if it was months or years ago then only the most pedantic of us give a rat's ass - and really, who cares what those whiners say? Some of us don't have our brain stem plugged directly in to an ethernet port and don't see every new link on the internet every day.

So thanks for the cool link, bud.

I'm surprised that the radiation didn't fog the film.

I like her better on the dollar coin.

2013-05-26 07:32:31 PM
Well, she obviously couldn't take "selfies" while hiding from the Nazis. The GPS would have given her away.

As would her ISP, Google, Facebook, Twitter ....

Pretty much anything that uses electricity, to tell the truth.

how does a deaf and blind girl become the hide and seek world champion?

I was hoping to see more footage of her time working with the gorillas.

I never knew Hellen Keller was a Vulcan. Looks like she's trying to do a mind-meld in the video.

Very cool.  Thanks, subby.

Anybody want a copy of the font I made from Helen Keller's handwriting? EIP.

Yes, her handwriting. She evidently had a metal template with rectangular cutouts which she could use to make very gridlike letters. It's pretty cool.

Hellen Keller ain't bad looking.  I'd hit it.

Hahahaha it's hilarious because of all the misunderstandings about historical figures and whatnot.

Some people like Helen Keller, but her "Objectivism" nonsense has caused humanity a lot of grief.

She sure isn't a looker, that's for sure.

I think I will always remember Hellen Keller for sewing our country's first flag, well that and bringing water to our soldiers in Trenton.

I had the same thought when I saw her do that.. lol  "So THAT is where Spock learned to do that"

jokes aside, I admire Hellen for never giving up when she had everything against her..
